i need a Dyna 3 ignition system a.s.a.p.!!! specifically a "D37-1"

Motorworks sent me the wrong effing one / no others in stock / and no thanks - i dont want a Newtronics or a Dufus Rita:P

badly stuck now as i go on holiday in a few short weeks - bike is off the road without it....ARGHHHHHH!

(its not for a GS..i apologise now:P )

ANYhow...anyone know of a reliable source for these thingies?

Thanks in advance.

got a "Dufus rita" on my le mans. it's brilliant ;)

fitted 2 micro digital units to airheads with no probs as well.

sorry, no idea where to buy dyna stuff from. states?

i know, no help at all :D

Re; Dufus

 its a Dufus Rita that got me in this mess in the first place!
(i know, i know - they are normally Very Reliable...but not for me:( )

the motoprat..er, Motoplat lasted over 21k miles...which apparently is astonishing.
the replacement Rita lasted 6k miles...and as they have just gone out of production - i aint buying another one!
but my ferrys booked / time off work too - all i need now is a roadworthy bike...ARGGHHHHhhhhhhh!

yes - i could use the triumph trophy i'm selling - but that needs tyres, a service, and ...look - forget it - that thing is sciatica on wheels for me - takes all the glow out of a biking holiday:(

ho hum...
eM
is never happy :P

already tried...
tts-performance; quick to reply - but not in stock - 2 or 3 weeks to despatch.

now looking at the site for...
biketorqueracing - only online info for jap bikes - will fax them right now.

previously....
i googled all over the place:D - and ended up here in desperation!

its for a Shhhh! - 1990 Moto Guzzi Cali 3 !

*exits singing; "Desperado....why dont you come to your senses... and stick with bmw's in future!":D :D :D

have you tried wessons or raceco yet?

when you get REALLY,REALLY,REALLY desperate, motomecca still listing rita for your bike:

Lucas Rita Electronic Ign. California III, 144, £93.80

Wessons! - the b*ggers moved the website - my bookmark was out of date:rolleyes:
just faxed them

Raceco - no fax number - just eMailed them.

hey - Thanks a lot folks! . all this is appreciated.

might have a set of points & backplate kicking around somewhere if you get stuck. not certain it will fit a mkIII mind.

i have lots of experience dealing with wessons & faxing them sounds optomistic IMO. i'd phone them up if i were you.

i'd phone raceco too. they are always busy, but if you are lucky you'll get to speak to amadeo. no one knows more about guzzis. that includes the factory but possibly not dr. john :)

saga continues . ...

so - i send the dyna unit back - along with a template of the lucas bits - showing exactly why it wont fit.
and FINALLY i get a call this a.m. telling me that for it to fit i need to get an older distributor "assembly" complete with the mechanical advance unit (bob weights+springs i presume)...
they will do me the favour:confused: of selling me the right bits for half price. thats £35 instead of £70 / so this upgrade is setting me back a total of €320 approx.

so end (i effin hope:mad: ) result is that i will end up with the "upgrade"   of an even older set up than i had to begin with!!!

eM.
confusion will be my epitaph:(

Fin.... . . i hope

hmm....thats starting to look like a seriously good idea - as knowing my luck, it'll pack up while i'm on holiday on it!- Thank you for the offer.

i still find it odd that i have to go backwards technologically to fit this ignition!
if i plan any more upgrades - will it include a hand gear shift?!:D ;)
anyhow - started fitting it all yesterday, took longer to clean all the s/hand bits Motorworks had sent than to fit them, but all straightforward enough - not finished yet / cant wait to get it running now :)

oh feckit - just realised - i'd need condensers if i got points etc. for a backup:mad:

aw well...the end is in sh1te... i mean in sight;)

the epilogue

. ..nows that weird.
finally got my Dyna Ign. plus distributor "upgrade" (?) fitted, sorted, timed, and (*cue drum roll*) WORKING!

this is the weird bit - i am STILL none the wiser as to the cause of ign. problems in the first place!

all i do know is that it WAS an ign. problem.

and now its gone.

bike runs very nicely - and having looked at another thread (R100s restoration) about how some of us love the older bikes and the (ludicrous?!) way we can get all attached and emotional about them - i got to say i am delighted my old thing is working (the bike - i mean the BIKE!:D ).

i cannot imagine a "modern" bike pulling on the heart strings this way.

sheeesh! - just re-read that....lord i do sound like a right ole fart, dont i?!:P

anyhow - Thanks A Lot for all the support and advice.
now.....got to practice my French for when we're away on this yoke......

- wots French for "breakdown recovery"?!
