Where to go for dinner in Belfast?

Any Belfast residents with recommendations? Mrs Berin and I are in Befast for a Saturday night, and it’s an age since I’ve been. Morne Seafood bar, Dean’s or somewhere else.

We won’t have a car and are staying near City Hall.

It's not cheap but it is really wonderful dining

The question is... What type of food are you seeking ?? Full meal ? Something Quirky ?

One I can tell you that I would not even consider is Revolucion De Cuba ! Noisy inattentive and bloody expensive!

Ballyhackamore has some rather nice and some quirky places and you can buy a Metro day ticket which will allow you all over the main city area, all day for a £5 each

Metro (Pink or "Cerise" buses ) and Gliders (Articulated Purple buses)

So the trick is if you go onto Google maps and search what you want and then when you zoom in look for a bus symbol

and click on it! Number one it tells you the name of the nearest Stop / Halt and number two it tells you when buses are due there


So the Pin is Ballyhackamore outbound and all those buses stop there if requested

Anyway that bit is immaterial If you want assistance to get anywhere message me and I will send you my number !

(I used to work for Translink the public transport company and now am a technician for their ticketing devices But know my way around their systems )

Villa Italia is a nice spot up by Queens University as is Maggie Mays

Whatever you fancy we can find it for you and get you there and back easily

Also behind the Europa Hotel was the Old Great Victoria street Bus and rail centre (which has now been moved 100 m and became Grand central station) But there is a pretty diverse set up of Food where the old stands were

Boojum does some really nice Mexican Burrito Bar

Tortilla Belfast does some most excellent Mexican !!

Ah Yes!! The Morning star Pub if you want to experience Lovely fresh cooked food and the atmosphere of an older Pub That is the one I favour

Anyway I am full on drooling here

Depends what sort of food you want, but I do like the Morning Star, and I’m hard to please. A proper Belfast landmark.

I’m a regular visitor and stick to the cathedral quarter.

Watermans is superb.

Had a nice Indian in Mumbai 47 last time I was there a month or so ago.

Loads and loads of choice.

As DrFarkoff said plenty of eateries in Ballyhackamore. I've recently eaten in Neil's Hill, Pepito and Horatio Todds (a bar). In the city centre, it's hard to go wrong with the choice at Cathedral Quarter. I've also recently eaten in Millar's facing the Waterfront Hall and the Chubby Cherub at Chichester Street (round the corner from the City Hall). All have been good.

Oh and the Crown Bar Restaurant above the pub is good. I had a meal in there a few weeks ago before a show. Its accessed from Amelia Street rather than the pub on Great Victoria Street itself.

That's very kind! Main plan is to visit the Titanic museum, on Saturday afternoon but if you're around I'll happily buy you a pint if we meet up. We've only 1 night so it would be good to take in a couple of places, don't need posh!

Me and the wife go pretty regular.

we stayed at The 1852 Hotel which has a nice bar below it and do decent bar food, which we ate at a few times before venturing out.
As above we taxi to the cathedral quarter and pub crawl.

Just ask a taxi driver for advice, they are usually very helpful with stuff like this and will obviously take you to the place.

Top tip:
if you drink in the Duke of York and ring a taxi, go left as you leave for the taxi, don't go right you will miss it.

Coco was very good, really good food and excellent service. Recommended.

The Crown I’ve not been in for 15 years or more, when I had friends in Bangor and they came up for the evening when I was working there- hasn’t changed a bit, except the prices, and we had a right laugh as different crowds joined us in the booth.

We also saw the Titanic exhibition, which was in all honesty not worth the money, but you kind of have to- especially as we had friends that dived the sister ship, Britannic on a trip we unfortunately couldn’t make. Another guy that I dived with a lot even dived the Carpathia, the ship that was first to arrive as the Titanic sank, so nice to see the stories.

Anyway, a good weekend all round.

Boring fact - my Uncle, on my mums side, grandparents used to own the Crown. My uncle worked in it when he was at Queens. As a side story, they were catholics despite its name. My uncle married my aunt, a Protestant and because that was a no no in those days them emigrated to New Zealand.

At least these days that bit is all changing for the better.

When we lived in Ballymena and travelled to Belfast for some retail therapy we always stepped off the train in Belfast and wandered across the road straight into the Crown, for a swift taster
