Hi all,

The 850GS will soon be due it's 12k service.

I live near to Harpenden in Hertfordshire. I know Sawbridgeworth are down the road, but am not paying £70+ per hour.
So where else can you recommend?

Don't mind heading off somewhere for the day if i can get a loan bike. Had thought about Dorchester, nice part of the world for a run out.

Any thought's on what i might expect to pay for the service?.

Thanks in advance

Stu

That man Steptoe just did a sparkling job in servicing my old 1100GS, now owned by unshift of this parish. He's down at Kingston so it probably falls into the "too far for a drop off in the morning, not far enough for a day out" but can't fault the work he did on the old rattletrap I sold to a passing idiot. Many people on here will also recommend him. I've got one service to do before the warranty runs out on the new bike which will be done at Battersea, then it is off to Steptoe for me...

You might also consider Pat Keenan at Mobitec (http://www.mobilemotorcycleservicing.com/home.htm) who will come to you in a big truck full of servicing stuff. He also did some work on the old 1100GS for me.

rattletrap ... passing idiot ... tsk tsk - i guess i can understand the feelings involved from someone who chose to downgrade from an 1100 to an 1150 :D
the bike is running sweet btw

yup Steptoe gets my vote :thumb

People seem to be happy with the servicing at Woolaston in Northampton - and there are some good roads....

Re: where to go

Thanks for the hints so far, Yep i had thought about Steptoe as had realised he is highly thought of. I should have said would be nice to avoid coming into the smoke on a day off even better.
Yeah i know kingston isn't exactly the smoke. If i do it on a work day would need to get from Herts down to Kingston then across to Whitechapel for work by 07:00 ish then back over again after 6pm at this time of year.

Nightmare i reckon.

Keep em coming, some interesting pointers on the other post re: Norfolk as well

Stu :clap

Free loan bike - you can drop off in the evening ( up to 9pm) and pick up the following evening. whatever suits you Sir :D - I don't have hours of work i.e. 9 till 5 . I realise people have to earn a living and move around the great metropolis, which is near enough impossible during the day. So i'm very flexible

Stu, mine also needs doing. If you fancy it, I'll go down one evening and bring you back if you do the same for me the day after. Steptoes is about 45mins away.

Got my 12,000 mile service done at wollaston in Northampton last September. Originally bought my 1150GS from SBW last june but was shocked at how much they quoted me for the 12,000 service. Anyway, paid £307 at wollaston (which included the annual inspection) and the use of a free loan bike. Not sure if this is a good price as it is the first BMW i have ever owned. I Hope the 18,000 is cheaper!
