Has anyone got any suggestions on where to mount (for forward facing) the Drift Ghost on an RT 1200?

Do you just rely on the self adhesive mounts or are the alternative mechanical secured options as I am not sure I can trust it wont fall off whilst out riding.

When mounting on the side of a BMW flip up lid can a safety tag/line be secured should the self adhesive pad fail when out riding any suggestions on how or if necessary

Would be interested to hear your views and of your experiences

All I can suggest is wherever you mount the camera you employ a "safety tag/line" of some description. Even if it's just a piece of string to stop your £100 camera bounncing down the road.

I have mine mounted on top of my C3 and if your concerned about it coming off them GOPRO sell some adhesive safety lines

I have for the last 4 years had my drift mounted on the side of my motor cross helmet with no safety wire, I have had my fair share of off's and haven't lost my camera, the self adhesive pads are really strong, always prepare the surface where your going to put the mount making sure its free of polish :thumby:

Gargy, re your you tube vid. How did you get the speedo and ride route on there. Is its done when editing or a camera feature.

The camera is a Garmin Virb Elite. It's a feature built into the camera. You can remove it in the Garmin editing suite if you don't want it showing. There's also cadence, heart, accelerometer, gps co ordinates available to put on the screen if you want.

Some nice features, None of which are available on mine.......what will they think of next

Mine is mounted on side of my BMW 6 helmet, went all way to Spain and back over 2,000 miles never had a problem. The only thing is i don't know if it moved and still pointing in the right direction or if it has switched off/on. but saying that, I have taken hours of footage, mostly quite well.

I did have to remove the mount as it was pointing down a bit too much, those 3M pads (clear jelly like stuff) certainly sticks, I bought some more off flebay which are still as good as the ones supplied. I also tried mounting on on the instrument cover looking through the screen but it bounces about so much it was useless.

I have just got a 1" RAM ball mirror stem mount, which gives another point of view.........................

Not edited in any way, as I'm still playing with camera positioning..........................

The camera also does time lapse video, which is going to be interesting. You can even set it to take a picture at 1sec/2 sec/5 sec intervals in time lapse mode. Should make for some different footage.

I have had mine mounted on the crash bars of the WC ADV and the results are not brilliant due to vibration and heat haze from the rads it is better mounted there painting backwards (a nice different angle) but the best results without doubt are from the helmet mount

I've been using a Delkin Gecko Stealth suction mounting for over a year and had no problems whatsoever. It's done about 10,000 miles in that time through all sorts of weather. Mine's mounted just below the mirror. I've also mounted it on top of the panniers before for a rear facing view and used a tether to the rear grab rail just in case.

It's surprisingly robust and on the trip to Germany in July was tested well into 3 digit speeds with no issues at all.

On the previous bike, a 1200GS, I put one of the supplied sticky pads on the beak. It was still there when I swapped it for the RT and I actually gave up trying to get it off, so they're quite strong. Just make sure you don't put it on when the bike/pad is cold as it reduces the effectiveness of the glue. If you're going to be fitting it soon just warm the panel and the sticky pad with a hair drier.

Facom
when you say prepare the surface prepare it with what?

I've ordered a Joby suction cup and locking arm. Looks like a good piece of kit.
