Where's your Tax Disc

Mine has been fitted under the beak of my new 08, 'edge on' so to speak. You can't actually see it unless you lay on the ground.

Asked the dealers about this and they say you don't actually need one on display as wardens and police check by conputer if the bike is taxed. Mmm...

I'm pretty sure that 'failure to display' is still an offence so I'm moving mine, hence the titile of the thread. Thinking somewhere on the left cylinder?

Mines on the back of one of the cylinders, but it looks full of condensation.

I assume this is down to imperfect waterproofing in combination with plenty of heat

I'm going to get one of those tamper proof holders for my screen this week as the new disc should be arriving any day now.

P.S. The offence is indeed "Failure to display" as I found out while being bollocked for keeping mine in my wallet after I had one stolen before.

Exhaust hanger looks good to me. That's where I've put them before and had no problems.

Still can't believe dealers solution.

I find this the best place to but mine.Little amount of Vaseline around the holder on assembly is good for keeping the weather out.

He ran a computer check & it all checked out there.

between 2 pieces of clear fablon cut slightly oversized. therefore making it completely watertight. Then put in a cheap n' nasty holder, again fixed to the exhaust hanger..

Mine is the same place as Dec's. I would point out that when I came to change it I managed to thread the bolt, as there isn't much tolerance in the length. Adding the thickness of the tax disc meant it was only gripping 2 threads deep. I now have a longer bolt packed out with a few washers.

Otherwise it seems sensible.

I had the same problem as I could never get the tax disk holder perfectly watertight, so I dried it out overnight and laminated it, then cut around the disk (leaving about a 3mm margin) then stuck it back in the disk holder. Works a treat.

Praps I'm jus lucky but I have not displayed a tax disc on any of my bikes for years (its in clingfilm in me wallet in me jacket) and the only time that it was mentioned was when i attended a police Ride safe day (cos they look over the bike) I told the officer and produced the tax and he said although not exactly complying with the law most officers would accept this. Sorry mate, we no longer pay road tax as the Govt increased fuel tax by 2p a litre and abolished road tax, quite fair I reckon let those who use the roads, pay for them. However when we did, another trick was to scan the original on the computer and put that in the holder where it will eventually succumb to the elements and keep the original under the seat just in case you get pulled over or require another scan.
