WHICH 1200GS

Hi i am looking for a bit of advice. I want to buy my first GS1200 and dont know which to go for. I have seen a couple that i am interested in. One is a 2005 GS with 14000 on the clock for and the other a 2006 with 35000 on the clock. The lower mieage one is 2000 more. Is 35000 too much for a 2006. Both have a full BMW service history. I am new to this and dont realy know how they should ride. I dont want to buy a 35000 miler that is a bucket of nails but dont how they should feel. Someone out there please help.

I guess its all down to preference. What extras do they both have if any ?
I wouldnt be too worried about the high milage bike and as you say has BMW service history. The colour should be the main priority !!

Both have abs, heated grips, panniers and top box (BMW). More or less both the same. Ones dark blue and the other graphite grey, which i think looks better.

Ride them both and you will soon know which one you want. Check the service history on both carefully. You are no doubt aware of some of the problems these bikes have suffered, so if you can get someone in the know to cast an eye before commiting yourself. If it were me I would go lower mileage as a lot can happen between 14k and 35k. The again if there is a big diff in price you could well take a chance with the fave colour. Good luck whatever you choose.

Bearing in mind that if you don`t like the colour you only have to change 2 panels
I`d ride both bikes and see which one rides better and maybe even take a new demo 12 for a ride to compare

Bill, the condition of a used bike is more important than its mileage.

Do your homework and learn what goes wrong and how much to fix. Most common is the fuel pump controller, dead easy and relatively cheap to fix. Dealer history is advisable but not essential IMHO providing the owner is a competent home mechanic and has looked after the bike properly (they're simple machines anyway).

My 2004 bike has 35,000 miles on it, I maintain it myself and lavish it with care and it still looks and rides like new. I can't sell it at the moment as I have to wait a year after reimporting it with my stuff from Australia (customs rules) but when I do sell it'll be at a decent price to reflect the lack of dealers stamps and someone will get a bargain. I'll only sell it when the time comes to help fund a new GSA.

Find out if 2006 model has servo assisted brakes. If not, then this model is preferable. Do a search.
