Garmins own

I'm using the Garmin one that costs about £40 with a power lead. No problems attaching it to a ram monut either. It has a security device - unusuak screw o lock it down. Nver had any problems with it falling off or being unsecure. It also has a nice holder to put the lead on when you're running the bike without the gps on. BTW the autocom lead from the SP3 fits straight into the 2610.

There are been a couple of reports of problems with the Garmin motorcycle cradle.
The back of the case where the top push down piece latches cracks on the GPS case. The mount itself does not crack.

At least 2 units have done the 100kph bounce and been replaced by Garmin US.

The Navigator II have the same latching system but I have not heard of any problems with it (yet).

I have used the Garmin motorcycle mount for over a year now - about 30,000 km - and am quite happy with it. No evidence of any problems with it.

I have not heard about the problems Burnie reported, although it is good to hear (from Burnie's report) that Garmin replaced the GPSRs involved.

I think that the Garmin mount should be more than sufficient for on road use (paved, gravel, whatever). If you plan to do really bone-jarring off road use, then maybe it might be worth looking at a more substantial (and more expensive) mount, such as the Touratech. You might find that you will also need an external antenna with some of the third-party mounts, because they obstruct the location of the built-in antenna in the SP 26xx.

Has anyone tried the SP26xx in a Nav 2 mount? And if they have do all the 4 extra buttons work? And can you buy the Nav 2 mount as an accesory from your friendly dealer?

I like the RAM mount more than the one from Garmin.

It's got a secure grip on the unit, it's light and it's cheap.

Ram Mount

Looks nice but does it just snap in? I guess if it does, it can't easily fall out can it? Is there any security feature like the Garmin one? Questions, questions.

Yes it "snaps" in, but very securely. Feels much better than the Garmin cradle that I tried first. The round bit at the bottom of the 2610 fits in a hole in the mount, and the top and bottom of the bracket slide over the edges quite a bit. It has a good grip and yet inserting and removing the unit is quick and easy.

This is what "secures" the 2610 in the Garmin mount.

The Garmin mount does have a "security screw", but all that does is keep the tiny metal lip from moving up on its own. And it's annoying to be fiddling with the screw every time you insert or remove the unit.

The "security screw" in the Garmin mount is intended to be an anti-theft* feature. It's not needed to increase the reliability of the mount, so far as holding onto the GPSR is concerned.

* 'anti-theft', in the sense of keeping honest people honest. I wouldn't leave the bike parked overnight in a rough part of town with the GPSR in place. But, the little screw does prevent folks from casually removing the GPSR.

The RAM-HOL-GA9 holds the 2610 as Migsel mentions, otherwise if you have the garmin cradle, then its the RAM-B-202-G1 kit to attach on the rear of the garmin cradle , same as SPIII.

As to anti-theft, suggest a look at the 'Lockable Mounts' thread where this subject is being discussed. I posted an image to show how the arm can be adapted, but the GPS in the cradle is still vulnerable.....
