I thought about this today after the 7th or 8th go at getting the timing hole grommet back in  A job made harder by a combo of poor eyesight and fat fingers :blast

Hopefully this thread does 2 things 1. helps vent your spleen 2. attracts a solution to your frustration :D

So what airhead job shits you the most?

always , always the final drive rubber boot, because of the time between doing it ive usually forgot what little knack got it on at the end of the two hours last time:blast

Refittng the neutral light wire, that obviously wasn't on properly, after you have just refitted the gearbox, driveshaft and bevel box :augie

Cam chains on heavy flywheel bikes is another one.

re-fitting the M6 nuts that hold the rocker covers on, especially the front one, RHS if you have crash bars

Taking the idiot light console out made me smile lots!!!!

Taking out the alternator cover if you have crashbars and an Enduralast installed, and hot headers to boot.

Adjusting throttle cables while sync-ing carbs comes close due to engine heat.

Getting the driveshaft to mate with the final drive on a paralever. :blast

Yes, and what about the 8mm screws holding the airbox/gearbox on. Especially the one that hides right under the air intake.

This thread could go on forever ! ('scuse the pun)

.....

Agree on that one. Refitted the gearbox, airbox etcetera, forgot to wire the switch :blast Maglite in mouth, two flat headed screwdrivers in hand trying to ease the fecking thing on. Still managed to do it after about 10 minutes of sweating and swearing though :aidan

I'm sure there are far more awkward things to come :D

On Del'orto carbs (not sure if Bings are the same), re-fitting the end of the throttle cable to carb whilst compressing but not damaging the springs.

Oh, and on the R90 (I'm sure it's the same with a number of others) refitting the long bolt through the air filter housing. Frustrates the heck out of me at times.

How true is this..the bugger either shoots straight on first time...or you are doomed to spend 30 minutes cradling the bugger with the resulting popeye forearms !!:D

i worked out a way to do that.

let the driveshaft rest on the bottom of the paralever casing, with the splines angled up. bring the bevel box down on it from an angle, and straighten up as it engages.

works every time for me :)

take the shock of and jack up the wheel so the gearbox flange and drive flange are opposite each other - its a 5min job then. Don't do this and the bugger keeps slipping off .. and off .. and off.. and off ... repeat until you remember to ...

Defo the rubber gaiter on the gearbox/drive shaft ( mono) ,the clips aren't much better either. :comfort
