After 11 years faithful service (02 1150 GS) I think my battery is starting to go downhill. :tears Anyhow, I'm now starting to look at the various makes and models that could replace it and can't make up my mind which one to get. :blast Are the Odyssey ones worth the extra or do I get the standard BMW gel one? The bike only goes out once or twice a month and the rest of the time it gets plugged into an optimate. Anyone got any other suggestions? :nenau Ta.

Yep - Motobatt. Advantages of Odyssey without the price or the terminals at the wrong side hassles. Performs better in tests too.
Go eBaying...
Bit of a real tight squeeze into the battery holder but it will go!

After 8 years on the original BMW exide on the GSA - I decided it had performed well & only changed it as a precaution as it had a blip in spring

I went for the same again, about £78 delivered from Motorworks

Battery

Another here for motor works & original battery, 8 years and 66,000 miles on original:beerjug: for motor works service

Odyssey

I recently installed an Odyssey battery, should have done it months ago no more flashing ABS lights, have not hooked it up to a maintenance charger in the 4 months that I have had it.

Do not know about the other batteries but you will not go wrong with fitting the Odyssey.

Never had an external charging system on my OEM battery, but I do ride every day, and OEM fits properly and last years. Save the extra money for a takeaway and a beer or two.

Would you have had anything different (ie no flashing lights etc) if you had fitted an OEM battery instead? :blast

Go for a big name, pay the extra, get fuck all extra apart from a sticker and the hassle of using silly 90 degree brackets to make it fit

Go OEM........If your first one lasted 11 years, why the flying fuck would you want to pay 25% more for some fancy name

PS you can get Oddysey stickers from Ebay if you really want to follow badge fashion.....25p plus postage, added twat factor kudos F.O.C

I'm another convert to the OEM (exide gel) battery.

It fits the hole perfectly with no messing about.

The wires fit perfectly with no messing about.

It lasts for ages with no maintenance.

It's as reliable as any battery can be.

It provides all the power the bike needs.

It is relatively inexpensive.

But at the end of the day it's your choice:thumb2

On the whole, I prefer Ian's way of suggesting you stick with the original, as distinct from the other silly outburst....no need for nasty swearies when the geezer asked a civil question.

I think he was having a go at the "Odyssey is best" post.

I'm another one for why change what has lasted so well without any bother, or pay more and have to bodge it to make it usable.

I bought on odyssey last year, based on some opinion I think I read on here. And the fact that it's red, which obviously means it's more powerful than a black one. The sticker was a lovely surprise but it's on my toolbox, not the bike.

Anyway, it seems very good but not as "wow" as i was expecting. It's fine as long I remember not to try starting the bike with the heated grips switched on.
If there's a next time, I'll probably just buy a cheaper brand.

no need for nasty swearies when the geezer asked a civil question. !!!!!!!!!

Must have missed that what particular post are you referring to

Anyway shop around for prices but from memory I think the difference between the Odessey and original Excide battery was about £20.

You pay's your money and makes yer choice.

Lasting 11 years I'd stick with the Exide. I've just shopped around for a new one a few weeks ago, I ended up getting one from a local parts dealer @ £65.00 :thumb

If you do want to shop around here's Exide part No. "GEL 12-19" and they delivered it that day FOC.

I put a Motobatt on my airhead a few months back. It has been tremendous - even if the bike has stood for a couple of weeks in the cold, it thumps it into life (with its old and tired wiring) with ease. I don't use an optimate or similar.

There are probably lots of 'right' choices here but this was my first Motobatt and I wouldn't hesitate to go for another.

I suggest you go do one, no misinterpretation that I hope

Now now, calm down.....

I think the moment has passed......not to worry tho'!! Lifes too short!!

I too have an Odyssey. It has been very good. I would probably buy another, but not, hopefully, for my 1150. Because I can!!
