Obviously the reverse of this is that the RT also produces a lot of emissions at the front of the bike and would reduce the performance of your PMR446.

I suspect that a respected company such as Panorama use quality low loss coax along with high spec cutting, stripping and crimping tools. They supply some of the Tetra kit for police bikes I'm told

The technique of bonding the outer coax shield to the bike's frame is interesting - any chance of more detail?

The A80 is claimed to be "mil-spec", has a metal chassis and is CE stamped so I'm hoping 0.5w will be reasonably bulletproof as far as spurious emissions are concerned

My mate has a similar setup to mine on his '06 1200GS with the PMR just behind the tank and a 5/8 whip over the instrument cluster and has yet to report any problems

OK, this is my setup. The feeder cable will be hidden by a Halfords adhesive anti tamper tax disc holder on the inside of the screen

The BikerOracle setup is a bit more expensive (£37 v £12), a little less covert and with my biking skills would be destroyed the first time I paddled the bike back into a parking spot!

The dipole requires no groundplane (counterpoise) and thus, IMO, is easier to fit

I did consider mounting it inside the fairing but was concerned that the nearby subframe would be too much of an attraction to radio frequency (RF) energy and the latter would be dissipated to ground rather than the ether

A TAD to BNC female connector is available for a couple of quid from Intaride and the FME terminal can be replaced with a BNC male (I believe Panorama offer this option if you buy from them) - I think this is about as compact as it can be made

Not much use to GSers but I have the coax, Autocom connection and power saver cable all coming up through the rubber bung in the bottom of the bike's radio box so the whole caboodle can be stowed in there but easily lifted out for adjustment etc

Sorry Kritou, forgot to thank you for posting the picture and information. I must say, that Dipole is certainly economical and neat, I think I’ll give one a try, do you think they would fit a SMA connector if I asked them nicely?

Yes they would - but as suggested it might be best to send them your stubby antenna so they can match the termination correctly. A quick phone call to 020 88774444 should confirm this
