Which boot? TCX Infinity or HG Rallye III

Am looking for a tougher replacement for my current boots and having found that I can fit my trousers over the BMW Santiago and then remembered that TCX make the Infinity, Rallye III and the Santiago I would be interested in opinions/experiences of all three boots. One thing that might sway me towards the Rallye III is that my HG clothing has 5 year guarantee against the Goretex leaking under which my two-year old trousers have just been replaced. According to my local HG branch (Maidstone) the 5 year guarantee also includes boots. I don't know if the Infinity has a similar guarantee but BMW told me the Santiago doesn't.

So, what do you think about the Infinity versus the Rallye III, please.

My only possible concern is manipulating the 1200GSA gearshift with such a chunky boot - I take size 12. General experiences of big boots and GSA gearshifts are also of interest.

TIA

Yes, seen some cracking prices on the web but I'm prepared to pay a bit more to actually jump about in them before splashing the cash.

Personal question: what size boots do you have?

hg for me and i wear a 12 never had any probs at all, bmw santiago version is a bit village people

Was recommended the TCX when I was instructing and found them to be fab boots. That was before they were voted the best buy in Ride magazine. Gave my original pair to my son when he passed his test and Santa has a pair in his sack for me. Brilliant boots! The clips can be a bit fiddly till you get used to them but I love em!

HG Rallye's, 5 years daily use in all weathers no problems at all, they are comfy for walking. They gave up the ghost at the beginning of the year (the seams split) i would definitely recommend em and buy again but i gave altbergs a go this time round.

TCX

Hi, I bought a pair of TCX Infinity about 8 weeks ago. They are now fitting very well and have been totally waterproof so far. I bought them from get geared in Leeds for £170 they were on offer in the TCX reboot deal. As I said at the begining I have only had them a few weeks but so far I would recommend them to anyone. As someone mentioned earlier the clips take a bit of getting used to but not long. I also found that changing gear took a bit of getting used to as the boot is deeper in the foot than my old ones.
Hope this helps Glenn.

It's the 'deeper in the foot' situation that's making me wonder if a size 11 would be too big for the GSA. My first boots were like the TCX - made by SIDI - but were much shallower over the toes. This was presumably due to lack of protection but did mean that I was able to ride a Honda CG125 without problems when changing gear - the other problems were not boot-related.

It surprises me that the space around the gear shift is so small on the 12GSA. It seems/feel less than there was on my 1150GS

Err, I might be missing the point but aren't they essentially the same boot? TCX make the HG 3 for HG!

I have the HG and they're great (saved my foot in a spill at 50 and still going strong).

The warranty for HG is 2 years:

....2-year warranty on all Hein Gericke branded products....(from HG website)

Basically which can you get cheapest. No difference when I tried them back to back.

Indeed all three are essentially the same boot. However, the GoreTex products at HG are guaranteed against leaking for 5 years - which includes the Rallye III. Look at the swing tag This is separate from the HG warranty. I checked this in the Maidstone HG store when I looked at the Rallye III. Couldn't try a pair as they didn't have my size. I know that BMW don't offer the same warranty and I'm not sure if TCX do. It was one of my (implied) questions when I started the thread.

HG agreed that the GoreTex warranty is for such a long period that it is not unreasonable to expect a high wear garment to be leaking after, say, 4.5 years and that anyone with a bit of sense will trot back to their friendly HG branch with a soggy jacket/glove/trouser etc and the receipt so that said garment can be sent to Gore for testing and, probable, replacement. Thus, you get a new garment every 4 or so years. And I confirmed that the guarantee re-starts with the replacement garment. I went through this hoop when my PSX-RS Pro Shell pants leaked earlier this year. Dropped them in HG and a week later picked up a replacement pair.

Fair point. Thought you'd might have missed the family resemblance. Sadly I got my HG Cruise Jacket from the factory in Germany as a second (furred up due to the neck velcro) so no replacement likely. Still totally waterproof, just a little frayed. I would definitely go HG every time, just pick your moment with the offers. I got a "free" rucsack worth £100 when I bought my Shoei Qwest recently.

My Cruise Jacket is excellent - although no longer as bright as it was. Unfortunately, Gore couldn't make it leak when it went back with trousers. However, a little bird tells me that HG will be having a 50% discount sale on Boxing Day (probably). Now, how do I explain to my parents why their lunch invitation has suddenly become dinner?? :-)
