WHICH CAMCORDER?

Just ordered a RAM mount for my 35mm camera, thought it would be groovy to film on the move as well.

Which camera do you reckon? I was thinking of one of these SONY jobbies which take RW DVDs ... my budget is about £500

I've been looking at camcorders recently for the Banjul trip..........I had a good look at the Sony DVDRW ones but a lot of the reviews say that although they're pretty good, it's very difficult to get the mini sized writeable dvd's and so don't recommend them............

I've got a canon and think it's the dogs bollocks. If you go for one with the i after the number it will take an analogue input (ie helmet camera).

Dave, i got a DV Sony from empire electro online. Cost about £350 and is great. I did a bit of reading up and it doesn't seem that DVD RW type camcorders are quite up to speed. Reckon most digital ones will be OK but the Carl Zeiss lense did it for me.

MAKRO at treforest have a special on with Sony HI8 camcorder at the moment, looks an absolute bargain at around £200, my mate has the model down from this one and reckons it is excellent.

Going to get one myself this weekend I reckon

Forget Hi8 or digital 8 if you've got £500

Mini DV is a superb format and if you can find a little more money you might be lucky and get your hands on secondhand "3ccd" unit. (ccd - Charge coupled device)

The Sony TRV 900e, & VX1000 are both highly rated and pretty tough. They are a little bulky and you'll need to spend some time reading the manual but the results will be excellent.

Make sure it's a "PAL" format camera. If it's NTSC leave it alone.

If you're lucky enough to find a VX1000 make sure it is "DV-in" enabled.

Both cameras work nicely as editing decks when attached to your PC.
