Which crash bars?

The BMW ones on the new bike are much better than the previous gs, so those are the ones I went for:beerjug:

Can you qualify that statement/endorsement?
Better in what way?
Shinier? Easier to fit? More robust? Cheaper? Etc. etc.

They offer more protection compared to the last ones, as they cover more of the cylinder heads. The last ones just covered the front, so not as good if you're into off roading.:rob

Should I expect to get a deal on the price if buying with the bike? New OEM look nice but so do the Touratech. Not a lot in it on price. How difficult are the Touratech to fit if I go that route. Nearly said go down that road but don't want to temp fate even with bars on:)

They look fairly easy to fit, but I had Touratech fit mine whilst in Germany.:thumb

You should be able to get 10% off, if buying with a bike.:thumb The Touratech bars also look good, so its down to personal taste at the end of the day.:rob

The bmw look to be much lighter than the touratech bars, and they definitely do the job okay as I have seen them after a drop and slide, the bars had clearly flexed, as I could see where the rubber bump stop had hit the head (no damage to head) and they had sprung back to their original shape scratched but fine.

In fact after I saw them I thought it would be good to have some sort of protective wrap around the top rail to save getting them scratched when my bike falls over. Givi do a plastic protector for some of their bars.

There was a thread a while ago about protectors for bars, and this lot had a whale of a time with all the piss taking:comfort:D

No stock

How disappointing. No BMW stock and Touratech in the same boat. Touratech have come back with estimated delivery in 7-10 days so gone with that. No Dakkar for me this weekend then !!

Torx tool size

Looking at the Touratech video for fitting the bars a fairly large torx tool is required to remove and replace one of the engine mounting bolts. Does anyone know what size this tool is? Just want to make sure I get the right set of tools for the job.

Take that lead time with a pinch of salt.:rob They aren't known for their accurate lead times.:blast

If buying a new LC, then you should get about £500 off the bike (or thrown in as extras.) Dick Lovett did with mine, and also gave me a very good discount on the other bits i ordered with the bike (like the LED lights).

Bars despatched

Touratech have mailed that my engine bars have been dispatched. Sounds too good to be true. When buying the GS I managed to get a good PX on a car from the dealer and about 300 odd off of the sat nav. Saved the headache of selling the car. Now just need to get rid of my FS125 S-Wing. 12 plate with only 1200 odd miles. Black and immaculate. The S-Wing rekindled my love of bikes that had been dormant since a Blade in the late nineties. I think it is like a drug that you never actually grow out of.:)

Bars Arrived

Miracles never cease. Despite fears that the 7-10 day lead time from Touratech may have been all vapour, FEDEX just delivered the bars. Ordered Monday, here today. I have looked at the You Tube fitting guide and it seems very straight forward. I am only a bit concerned about undoing the large subframe torx bolt. It looks a large fitting. I have ordered a new set of Torx sockets so hopefully one of them will fit. Even swept the garage out for it. Only three more sleeps now !!

If you're concerned, just get the dealer to fit them when they PDI the bike.:rob:thumb

I am not too worried and if I do it myself I know it will have been done carefully with anti-seize and Loctite.
