somewhere, over the rainbow...
its getting close to new exhaust time and i was wondering what other folk have tried? the silencer is still ok so ideally i would like to keep that. ive tried the stainless y piece but the bike ran poo. its a 100 paralever thats been twin plugged, gas flowed with knn filter and airbox mods. as stainless as possible would be good. cheers folks.....

They seem to run alright with a 'Y' piece if you still have the original headers with the balance pipe at the front as my GSPD has. My mono which did have a 'Y' piece and now doesn't (now on a fellow GSer's recently rebuilt para) now has headers and a collector box c/o Keihan with what I think is a Carbon Can silencer and runs fine.

So I think your best answer may be Keihan headers and collector box with your current silencer.

I have a BSM "Y" piece

and it runs much better than when I had the Keihan

on it.

BSM is a better fit as well.
'Course, the BSM is somewhat more expensive!

I have a stainless Y piece grafted on to another section of similar bore then through a Remus that I cadged off a mate that took it off his Ducati cos it had the smallist of dents in it !!!! - This was a straight through race type can
I work on a Idea that for every 100 cc I drilled a 6 mm hole in the inserted "muffler" pipe that I shuved in the end of the can and secured with a bolt works a treat with dellorto's added as well
This idea of 6mm per 100cc worked on three other different bikes its been applied tooo

As John says, there are Y pieces and Y pieces. The second one looks more like a T piece, I cant see the gas flow from the branch on it ever being smooth. Apart from BSM I think Supertrapp do Y pieces too. You could go to an exhaust fabricator and get one made, OS pipes made me a nice custom stainless Y piece for a special and it cost the same or maybe a bit less than an off the shelf one.
