Hi,

Probably been asked previously:- Which flip-up front helmet?

I have been looking at the following helmets:-

  • Schuberth C3

  • BMW SYSTEM 6

  • Shoei Multitec

  • Caberg Sintesi

  • Caberg Konda

At the moment I wear an Arai RX7 Corsair Edwards Rep.
I have worn Arai's since the mid 1980's and although they're somewhat noisy and expensive, they are well constructed and protective.

Sometimes I use a paired Scala Rider Q2 Headset to listen to GPS directions and chat to the wife so I'm not sure if the Bluetooth helmets are or are not useful.

Constructive advice and comments sought.

Thanks,

RD.

You are going to get either lots of replies with everyone saying whatever they own is good or no replies as it's a very subjective matter... some folks heads fit certain brands. I suggest you just go and try alot on. Some are easier to fit coms in, some have sun visors, depends what you're after... hope you find the right one..:thumb

+1 go try and see which fits you best:thumb2

I have a Shoei Multitec - it's noisy, even with the "whisper kit" fitted, when compared with my previous Shoei full-face.

The chinguard comes quite close to my lips, so I don't know if a boom mic would fit in there.

Look at the DoT (?) helmet tests, and see how many times the flip-front comes undone in a test - it's scary...

Would I buy another? Probably not...

My pennies worth!

Had Shoei Multitec for three years - very good! Had Autocom headset fitted - no problem with getting the mike between my chin and the helmet.

It was damaged so I had to change and went for System 6. Within 6 weeks I'd sent it back. Lot more wind round the bottom and at the back than the Multitec. Biggest issues though - visor wouldn't close properly (apparently there's a fix for it) but main issue was front vent leaked and I got a very cold forehead! Didn't have the chance to ride in the wet to see if water got in. Went back to BMW and they said there was nothing wrong with it!

Whilst waiting for BMW to decide if they'd refund me (which they did!) I borrowed my mate's Schuberth C2. I found it windy and the lining uncomfortable.

Out of curiosity I weighed all three. Nothing in it (less than 20grammes between them all). Noise-wise, I reckon the Shoei was quietest and I couldn't tell the difference between the Schuberth and the System 6 but overall they were pretty similar.

Before my Multitec I had a Caberg Justissimo. Nothing wrong with it but build was cheaper, it was heavier and noisier than the three above.

I'm going back to Multitec!:thumb

I am happy how the Nolan N-103 fits my head and the strap and other functions in it just is great and intuitive.

Only downside was that I go the helmet with a defect N-com Bluetooth.

Can't really blame the helmet for that.

Had my system 6 for several months now. Just had a new visor under warranty as the pinlock insert kept steaming up between the insert and the visor, so you couldn't clear it by wiping.

Other than that, I've fitted my autocom to it and like it a lot. Fits well, though slightly snug over the forehead, I'm just doing a little manual modification to reduce a single hotspot.

It's the quietest helmet I've owned, though not quite as comfortable as the Arai's I've had before. I absolutely LOVE the integral sun visor and would make that something I have in any helmet from now on. It's my first flip front and again, I think these are brilliant for day-day riding. The visor is easy to seal, with just a pull on the top edge rather than the bottom, it doesn't leak and the field of view is wider than my previous arai's.

The one thing I'd change if I could is the quick release chin strap, I prefer the double D ring, I find the quick release a bit bulky and less comfortable.

Overall, I'm very happy with the system 6. It could be improved certainly but if it fits you it's a great helmet.

I have the Justi and find it a nice fit on the bonce but as others have said the quick release is a bit bulky under the chin so cannot overtighten it or it pinches.

Apart from that I liked the conversion to Jet as a selling point but would now prefer a seperate Jet with a sun shade on it.

The other thing I missed when buying was that this one cannot be ridden with the front up which would be useful when pottering around or starting off.

Cheers...

Has anyone come across the "Lazer Paname Fluro"

just saw one today, not a bad price, flip front with sunshade.

I particularly liked the 'in yer face' luminous yellow.

Just thought I'd add that to the mix (mainly coz I don't know anything about lazer, and it seemed OK)

Cheers

I too have a Nolan N103 and highly endorse it. Very simply fastening, internal sunvisor and the chin bar mechanism means that when up it sits close to the helmet as it's on an eccentric cam.

Also have a Schuberth C2, and whilst it is very very quiet, it is also heavy, and the visor mists up badly. I believe they now use the pinlock system though. Superbly built. Not a summer helmet since it is so closely fitting it's really very warm!

try them all on, buy whichever is the most comfortable..

HOW HARD IS THAT :comfort

The Shark is the only one I know were the chin guard flips all the way to the back of the helmet.

This means you have'nt got a sail on top of your head catching odd gusts of wind.

AIROH

AIROH MATTHISE......Iv had mine for over a year,Italian made with excellent sun visor, and comfy fit,not the most quiet helmet but hey when my tunes are banging who cares.Think they are about £160 i think they're great value and stylish........:Motomartin

Has a Justissimo, noisy and the lateral vision is crap unless you have a head that will spin like a budgie to see whats going on to the side..lane changing........sold it on E Bay.

Shoei Multitec:thumb2 I've just bought one to replace my old Raid 2 which I wrote off in April. It's just as quiet and only fractionally heavier. I haven't tried fitting my Scala Rider or video camera to it yet though.

Prior to the Raid 2 I had a Caberg trip. Good for the money but cheap build and noisey.

My 10 pence worth; I've had a Multitec, which I would go back to. I've had the system 5 which was ok but rubbish anti fog visor - it needs pinlock. I now have the system 6 which is better with pinlock and sunvisor but it's the coldest helmet I've had. In the hot weather it's great but if it's on the cool side I've really noticed it and never experienced this before, even though the shape fits my head fine. On the plus side autocom headset etc fit fine. Overall from my point of view it's expensive for the niggles I have with it, even clicking the visor down fully is hard!

I'll go back to multitec for my next one. Never had a problem with it, intercom headset and boom fitted without a problem and wasn't too noisy.

I agree with everyone else though. You need to try them all on to see what fits your head shape best.

Have Shoei Multitec x 2 (better half), some noise compared to full face but this will happen due to additional seams. Gr8 for getting on and off, gr8 for glasses. Venting good for antifog and keeping cool. Have scala rider fitted with clamp - works fine although boom mike is close to your chin due to shape of multitec.

Overall happy and would buy again...
