Which fuel

I have been advised to use Super Unleaded on my new Adventure.....but its 5p more a litre...oh....expense.

Shall i use the liquid gold (also known as Super Unleaded) or shall i use regular unleaded?

Any advice appreciated.

You'd be wasting your time and money!

However, the new R1200GS has a knock sensor (which 1100/1150s don't) and may well benefit from super-unleaded because it will be mapped to run a more advanced ignition cycle.

I run mine ONLY on 95 octane unleaded, the dealer was specific, and more to the point the head bike techie told me the 98 octane unleaded was a waste of money.

I used to think that Shell Optimax was wonderful. I swear it made my bike sound better and run better.

Now I'm not sure. I'm less fussy about what goes in my tank - normally it is BP or Sainsbury 95 octane - and my bike still runs really well.

Shell or Texaco

Honest John in the Telegraph claims that car petrol engines run best on Shell or Texaco Premium Unleaded 95 Octane. The additives compared to other brands keep the engine cleaner and you reportedly get nearer 96 Octane fuel. I am not sure how these fuels perform in bike engines but as the petrol station in the village is Shell thats where I will be filling the Adventure.

I notice in the Riders handbook the fuel spec is Super (Premium) Unleaded min 95 Octane.

I think that the reason for this is becuase in Germany they call our standard unleaded "Super". Someone has got confused in translaton before they spoke to you:

German fuel grades:

Regular (91 octane) Super Unleaded (95 octane) Super Plus Unleaded (98 octane)

95 is fine with me but wish I could run on GPL, yet again because of price.

You just blew a small fortune on a new Adventurer when the used market is about to be inundated with used 1150GSs at bargain prices. Why worry about a few pennies now?
