HI,

After a very dissapointing trip the the NEC a while back I'm still looking for a heated gilet or jacket. Ideally one that doesn't look like its been knocked up in a shed with army surplus materials and a gibbon on the machine.

This Sunday's ride to Grantham (from Lancaster) in conditions ranging from frost and blue skies to hail and wind has prompted the renewed search!

Wierd feeling having toasty hands and numb arms!!

Bike has an AUX socket under seat, so a bike powered system will work. Assuming of course THAT circuit was put in right, unlike my AUX lights.
(see other thread on the subject).

Sugestions?

Have a search on "Keis".

I have one of their waistcoats and it doesn't trip my 650 twin accessory socket on max :)

I can recommend these too. I run two keis waistcoats (one for the pillion) off the one accessory socket with no problems. They dont cover your arms but your body is that toasty that i feel warm all over.

If your accessory socket wiring has been interfered with and you can not sort it out the waistcoats come with a fused lead for connection direct to battery.:thumb2

I'n another tosser in favour of Keis. They're very warm, too warm a lot of the time without the optional controller. I got mine 'cos they looked good value and I was none too impressed with beloved's Chilli which she's had for ages. Its a lovely warm vest but blows its inline fuse from time to time, normally when I haven't got a spare with me. I've had no worries with the Keis.

I'd go for a Giali again these are great jackets, they cover everything from your neck to your arms as well as the main trunk of your body.

The new versions come with a removable heated liner rather than having it built into the fleece as on mine. Mines great, but it all gets a bit snug in the winter. To be honest mines been so good so far this winter that I've not even had to turn it on, the thermal lining and the fleece have done a good enough job by themselves.

I think I'm possible the only person here running one, but I like them and I'm more than happy with my purchase.

bloody hell!!! well that three of us ;) the tidy is turning :D

Yep, I've been using the old style Klan blouson for five years - excellent bit of kit and if I could smuggle the new model past Mrs K I would

I went for the Keis mainly as I hate having too much clothing around my neck. And if it's raining, unless it's tucked out of the way or covered, will IMO act like a sponge. Pity as on some days, having the heat in the arms would be nice.

I've just ordered one !! a Klan that is - (Giali ) -from
https://giali.com/index.php

Pal of mine has one, and has been very pleased with his, and that doesn't trip his Can-Bus system ...yes I do have a friend with a 1200, but he's OK really.

Do I read this correctly that the fleece and liner can be worn together or the liner can be used on its own? Ideal solution if you ask me as I have a load of really nice stretch thermal wear to put over the top of the heated liner...less bulk than the pile linings.

Am I reading that right?

I would have said get a Gerbing because it has a heated collar and it heats your arms too :thumb

But that was before it stopped working right in the middle of the cold snap over Christmas :blast:mad:

The good news is that Gerbing gear has a full life-time guarantee :D:thumb2

Skinflint's choice

I have had a Klan heate waistcoat for last 5 years and still works very well. However, recently made my own by sewing wire into the quilted lining of my Rev'It jacket and trousers and making own connections to a switch on the bike. Seems to work very well to date (well, not fried myself yet!) - took most of a day to complete including soldering all connections but a lot cheaper than Gerbings etc! Found several different instructions on ibternet but these were probably best. :thumb2

Don't pay any attention at the guy on the bike as the product is first class, I have the 65 watt one, which I was advised to go for, for the reason so many bikers buy the 100 watt and turn it up to keep warm, then they sweat there tabs off, it is better to get a jacket that warms you to the point you body stays comfortable and not hot, the 65w is more than adequate for this and uses a lot less battery power, heated arms and extra connectors for gloves, pants, and socks.
I have only got to half turn on the controller and it's well hot.

Very help full and no problem to get from the states, even the receipt ;) for the customs.

Well worth a look :thumb2

Another strong recommend for the Keis from me, £88 including in-line electronic controller woth £29.99 as a limited time offer.

Excellent kit, excellent price. So chuffed once tested that I bought the heated insoles for my boots too.

From the KLAN website;
  • The liner outer jacket is manufactured from tough wind resistant lightweight fleece. incorporating cordura panels on the shoulders and forearms.
  • Features include two outer pockets and one external phone pocket.
  • An internal wind seal with an elasticated belt.
  • The internal heated jacket is constructed from lightweight reflective lined fabric.
  • Heating elements cover the front, back, collar and the upper arms,
  • Elasticated cuffs feature an opening for use with the heated gloves harness or as a thumb retainer.
  • A rear external pocket, allowing access for an optional battery pack. (For off the Bike use).
The liner jacket outer and heated inner are designed to be worn together as a one piece to give you a flexible, versatile and ease of use heated garment for all cold conditions. Experience has shown the hot pile liner can be used in place of existing jacket thermal liners.
  • The Jacket Liner is available in XS S M L XL XXL
Machine washable

Kit Contents: Jacket Liner, ON/OFF Switch, Power Lead.

Power Consumption: 50w 4.2Ah @12v

So, I guess you can split them, and use just the heated liner.
And before you ask, that's NOT me in the photo...he looks a bit, erm, .......

ordered a Klan this afternoon having spoken with them.

The jacket lining can be used without the bulky fleece, which'll suit my kit.

I'll let you know how I get on.

Bit concerned over sizing....I've ordered the biggest one, but the guy in the pic looks Italian and they aren't the most generous when it comes to big clothing...we'll see.

Yes, I ordered a medium, and not really sure , as I'm a 38" chest ! However, they did explain that you need a "snug" fit.
As regards "generous" sizes and Italians.... say no more :D
