Which helmet style for 12GS?

The best and most comfortable you can buy springs to mind.

Mine's the same Shoei X-Ceed II (in a rather fetching shade of black with artistic scratches) that I used on the KRS, the 650 and the RR ...

Getting to the end of its useful life and will be replace with another Shoei.

Seriously, if it's for on-road use go for nothing other than top-class full-face. Flip-ups are convenient sometimes but are noisy. Open face helmets do what they say on the tin - open your face.

My 2 cents

Andy

I have a very nice, as new 60's corker which might match. Yours for a tenner:cool:

I'm very tempted by the TourX range, but this is one that (for me) won't be a web-purchase. I really need to try one on first, check fit, comfort etc. Can anyone suggest a dealer with a decent range near me [ NW Kent / SE London ] ?

Hein-Gericke in Mainstone?

I bought mine from the Slough branch - they matched the web price to within £10, so having used them to try for fit, I felt they'd earned the extra tenner.

I'm sorry, but sometimes a thread comes up and try as I might, I just can't resist posting a reply. I apologise. I tried not to reply but I just had to....

Here is a helmet that is perfectly suited to the R1200GS and its riders:

Hein Gericke it was. Got me a nice silver Tour X.
They have a great range of helmets and clothing and it turns out that they have a branch even closer to me (Welling) that I did not know existed.

Go for the schuberth c2 flip lid - I did and havent regretted it. Amazingly wide vision and incredibly quiet (compared to my old Shoei full face). If you can, buy it in Germany, about £100 cheaper. Locking mechanism seems as tough as can be (good enough for German and British police) and should the worst even happen, better access for paramedics. Better equipped than the BMW ones (made by Schuberth) and includes ultra-cool sun visor, so no need for shades......

Arai

Has anyone switched from an Arai Quantum f to a tour x? The quantum is an extremely comfortable helmet but boy is it noisy. The tour x looks the dogs bollox but if it as noisy as the quantum i'll probably pass.

If you want to buy a Schberth C2 in the uk, try James Sherlock. Got mine for £269. £80 off list. Very quiet, or it will be once I get round to cutting my 12GS screen down a bit.

Talking of Helmets....

I keep looking at the Schuberth C2 and the Concept.... as they are reportedly the quietist flip lids on the market.....

Question is... What is the difference between the two? (besides price) They seem pretty much the same to my un-trained eye??

If any of you guys use either of these helmets.... i'd love to hear your comments... good and bad?

I wear an open face helmet, an Arai Sz in white, all the year round. Unsurpassed view of vision and I like the fresh air in my face. The only thing I don't like is that there is no peak. With the low sun at this time of the year, it makes riding a bit of a pain.

My next helmet will almost certainly be the Arai Tour-X in white as you can ride with the visor up tucked up beneath the peak.

As an aside is it 'A-rye' or 'Arry'?

Haggerstoner,i made the change.Apparently Tour x based on Quantum so sizing should be similar.I found it to be slightly larger.but spares available for custom fit This could be down to the fact that the style of x doesnt have the amount of cheek padding and the chin bar is more forward set leaving you with a less cosseted feel. You really feel the difference of increased security when you switch back.Plus points NO NOISE with my GS 11OO,great peripheral vision.I can wear goggles with visor attached (fiddly removal)and raised for that fresh air feeling and if caught out by rain ,which stings like hell at speed, flip the visor down and lock it until you can stop and remove goggles.Top marks and no leaks as experienced by some.

Swebb, the C2 is the replacement for the Concept which has been out for quite a few years now, hence quite a few bargains to be had on the Concept. The C2 has improved aerodynamics and ventilation as well as a better locking mechanism - whatever you choose, both helmets fab. I personally went for the C2 as it was more 'up-to-date'. Have just got back from 150 mile jaunt down to south coast and am chuffed to bits with the lid. Although very quiet, I dont think you will get quite as hush hush as a full face, but then again in the summer you cant open a full face and you can with the C2/Concept (although you shouldnt ride with it open it says in the manual).
Happy decision making !

Martin
54 GS and lovin' it !

Cheers Starman... much appreciated, i didn't know that the C2 was the replacement.... guess it's pretty much decision made then..... off to Ally Pally end of month.. see if i can pick up any bargains there !!!

got both

Ive got both A system 4evo with double glaised and black visors that matches the bike it looks the nuts its very versatile as the seat belt type buckle is easy to do up asking for directions is easier with the flip as is having the fag before setting off
on the otherhand the tour x fits great looks the bizz not so easy to do up with the double d ring cant flip it up for a fag they are both great lids but its horses for courses
