I have signed up with IAM's Skill for Life package and need to join a local group to complete course.

Closest groups are Middlesex and Herts & Beds.

Does anyone have any experience of either group.

Dont' want a pipe & slipper type group

There's at least one observer from the Middlesex IAM on here. I was just thinking of contacting him today!

Great minds think alike?

I used ...

... the Essex group who used a scout hut on Sewardstone Road (North Chingford) as a meeting point; very down to earth bunch in the main :thumb2

I did my Skill for Life package thru Herts & Beds back in 2004. They were fine then and my observer was a sound bloke, very knowledgeable but not preachy about it. I've had no direct contact with them since then, but I can ask some current HBAM members on my bloodrunners group for feedback if you'd like.

Essex IAM (EAMG) declared UDI from the the IAM a few years ago. They are now an independent training company based in / around Chelmsford.

Dave, had I known I could have put you in touch with someone who will train you to pass anything from the IAM test or RospA up to and including the RospA Diploma on a timetable that suits you.

The bod lives in Cockfosters, so not a million miles away and is a very good rider / trainer. If that is of interest I could call him and put you in touch.

I went with the Middlesex Advanced Motorcyclists group in the end, and passed test tonight :thumb2

Would highly recommend the skills for life course.

Well done that man!

I am aiming to get my green badge sorted before winter sets in!:augie

Sounds like John Tipper?
Highly recommended!

Just finished my IAM course with HBAM (Herts and Beds Advanced Motorcyclists). I learned some new things about my riding and for the money you can't beat it. My enrollment cost £139 of which I got back a £50 rebate from Herts CC. The organisation is made up of volunteers and you contribute a £10 for each ride to cover your observers petrol. My riding has greatly improved and I drive faster than I did before. Making progress was slightly helped by my instructor having a HP2 Sport stalking me. For those considering doing this just do it. Motorcycling is dangerous but other road users are more dangerous. The course taught me to look at the road from a different perspective and the best way to avoid an accident is not to be there in the first place. My examiner had a GS so that probably helped a little.:augie
