I understand where you are coming from, but at the moment I have 2 reasons for using VMware & winXP

  • Garmin Mapsource for my QUEST.
  • SWMBO wants to play a PC game, that won't run on my current PC, and I won't upgrade it. The game runs on XP in VM, so keep her happy, and it will encourage her to use the mac. This will get her away from the standard PC (education and enlightenment by stealth :blast)

I use VMware all the time at work, and so generally a little palying around will solve any problems, and I suspect the Intel processor will stabilise their code-set.

However the long term plan is to lose the PC completely.
I'm not trying to persuade you one way or the other, but . . .

Roadtrip (free download from Garmin) seems to do all that mapsource does and works more or less the same way.

Have you tried it? Most modern games don't work on VMW or run so slowly as to be unusable.

You don't need VMWare to run Windows on a Mac. The Mac comes with a dual booter (BootCamp) so you can install Windows and choose which OS to run when you boot. Run from boot like this, Windows on a Mac will do everything Windows will on a PC (a modern Mac is really only a PC running Mac OS X)

Indeed, it could be easily argued that a Mac is a much better platform for running Windows than a normal PC.

Before making a decision on photo editing software, why not have a look at Adobe Lightroom which has recently been made available for Mac. It's very versatile and I'm led to believe that many professionals look upon it as being a very underrated piece of software.
I also agree that the Ilife 11 upgrade is well worth getting. In particular the video editing has been enhanced greatly.
