Which is the Best GS Model?

Hi, time to upgrade. Please tell me which is considered the best Model of the R1200GS?
Has anyone any experience of the new DOHC Head? I am not sure I like the way they have routed the cam chain.

All down to preference really, although I do thing the 'general' consensus is the DOHC is best, although whether or not it's worth upgrading from a 2008-2010 GS is debateable. I have the DOHC GSA and it gets a defintate thumbs up from me, much better than the 05 GS I had

2008 GSA. Superb.

2004, once all the bits are fixed and.... because mine is 2004

But the 2008 seems quite good and technically simpler.

I think you'll notice a big improvement with the 2008 and 2010 over the 2004. I personally prefer the extra low down grunt of the DOHC but not everyone seems to notice that big a difference.

I'm not that clued up on mods I'm afraid, but from what I can gather not many people seem too bothered about putting aftermarket silencers on the 2010 GS's, especially with the increased "rorty" noise of the new bikes. I know some folk have fitted some plug in device which they swear by, but I can't remember what it was and how it worked I'm sure someone on here will tell you.

I don't think there's any conflict or any arguement that the 2008 and 2010 are better bikes than the 2004 ones

Just got a 2010 GS and took a drive on a 2009. Haven't been driving a GS long enough to know the difference but the 2010 models have an exhaust flap that sounds gorgeous and I did notice a little more omph. Got my used with about 3,000 on the clock and to be honest not a huge price difference from some of the 2009s around. Of couse the price jumps if you want new.

J......the 2010 models have an exhaust flap that sounds gorgeous and .......

gives yet another component to go wrong along with the gearbox, the final drive, the fuel pump, the ring antennae, valves etc.

I'll be sticking with my 1150.

The best GS model is the -10 GS, and to be more safe than sorry it shares garage with my HP2e.

Red ones are faster, Black ones are tougher.

So do you want to be seen as light weight go faster owner or tough offroad real adventure type, choice is yours.

Obviously I have a rufty tufty black one and my wife a girly lightweight red one
