the LED headlight is very trick and worth the price of admission.
if a couple of dollars is such a big deal on a GS , maybe buy something substantially more cost effective vis the cost/benefit scale , eg , vstrom , super tenere , etc.

Strange how its fringed upon to buy a bike with cash, my old man was old school and drilled it into us, never buy what you can't afford in them days cash was king and nowadays they want to stitch you up on the never never plan.

Waiting for my new bike in March, basic GS1200 + heated grips.
I can afford the extras but in over 40 years riding Know I just don't need them.
Just think how often in the last few 1000 miles you have ridden how often you wished for riding modes? probably never.
How often have you driven in the real dark? Will car drives see you better, probably not.
How often have you stopped and felt the need to adjust your suspension?
These toys may seem to be the future of motorcycling but I have really enjoyed the last 40 years without them.
My current GS1200 has ESA and I know because I weigh more than 80 kg none of the settings are ideal and have very little effect.
Get a basic bike and ride, spend the saving on a few good holidays.

Maybe, although by contrast I do use the cruise, pretty much every time I go up the dual carriageway; I use the riding modes - enduro mode is genuinely useful when I'm in Devon and Somerset on those tiny muddy slippery lanes; the LED headlight really does make a difference at night cf the headlight I had on my prev GSA TC; and I do also use the ESA - both for preload when swmbo is on the back, and to a lesser degree for rebound when I'm on the move. It makes a difference.

Yeah,but back in the real world, like most folk I want a bike NOW, not in 3 or 4 years after I've saved up enough - I could be dead, divorced or unemployed by then

And BMW know it, so it plays right into their hands with BMW Select
How much night riding do you do, in reality...................not a lot, like me
As I said, it's a gimmick
And how often do you use ABS
I have once so maybe that is a gimmick also
Embrace it.
At the end of the day buy the spec of bike that you want and can afford rather than the bike that BMW UK would like you to buy

I do loads of night riding at this time of the year, the basic bike with heated grips is just fine, no need for the LED headlight because speeds have to be relatively low because of the road conditions.

On the standard GS work on the basis of 5% off the total cost of the bike and accessories and you will not be far wrong
Probably less of a discount on the new GSA until the initial launch excitement has died down and people realise how ugly they are
I think the op should do as a previous contributor suggested. Buy both and report back.

I'm seriously considering getting one in March, but the TE is poor VFM for me.
I rarely ride in the dark, so the LED headlight is a waste of money, and don't need the GPS mount
Standard GS £11650 + ESA £740 + heated grips £230 = £12620
TE = £14080
Think I'll save the £1460 as it'll pay for the luggage with change to spare...
Well, did the deal yesterday on the basic model + ESA, heated grips, panniers and low seat.
I was tempted by a 1300 mile TE model ex-BMW staff bike to save a couple of grand, but it was the low chassis version. Whilst this was good for my stumpy legs, the centre stand looked like I'd be dragging it round every left hand bend in the summer. I wanted a 2014 model too with it's alleged gearbox improvements.

Here in Norway the "stock" bike is priced at 22 980 GBP
ABS and heated grips are standard on Norwegian bikes
It can be ordered with "Comfort" equipment - 310 GBP
Handguards, Chrome exhaust and tyre pressure control
It can be ordered with "Touring" equipment - 1 189 GBP
Dynamic ESA, Dashboardcomputer pro, GPS mount and Cruise Control
It can be ordered with "Sport" equipment - 998 GBP
LED main / rear light and indicators, Driving Mode Pro
These 3 can be combined or items included in them can be ordered, but at higher price.
Mine are ordered with all 3.
I also did order Alarm - 212 GBP, BMW Navigator - 665 GBP, Acrapovic 872 and gear shift pro assist 250 ??? GBP
So I assume it will be somewhere at 27 476 GBP delivered from BMW + 3 092 in Touratech ecuipment
So 30 568 GBP on the road...
