Hi All:)

Ok need to upgrade the Wee Strom as its done a few milles and needs to be sold on.

Had a look at the Triumph Tiger and Sprint 1050 but both not sutable for me as a all year round rider. The sprint isnt sports tourer its a sports with bags Very fast though:D

So i have tried the K1200s and i will either be in a hedge or in the local police station and on Police camera Action:augie ( that was like siting on a saturn 5 rocket with satan shouting ) (lovley exaust note) :)

So it looks like a GS question is i know it was changed slightly in 08 now do i buy a nearly new 08 or is it not worth it and just buy a 07 or 06 for slightly less. I have had a look around and theres a few low millage bikes (why do people buy bikes and just leave them in the garage?).

I ride every day 50 miles more when i go into London so need a few creature comforts.

Info gratefully recived and used !!!!!:)

PS are all BMW dealers finace deals at silly APRs:blast

BMW dealers seem to ahve APRs at 12-14% when there appear to be personal loans at 9% on the net. However when I tried a few online applications the low APRs tunred into 12%!!

I was thinking of using the BMW Select option but even that is a high [13%] APR but as you delay about 50% of the final sum for a couple of years it brings down the monthly payment. If you trade in after a couple of years then you could be quids or euros in. Am I missing something on this?

Welcome Bikerjim, and hope you enjoy being here.
The eternal question, which to buy?
Have you ridden all four modern GS`s ? You really need to do this to get a feel for each machine and how it "suits you sir" for size and manouverability.
why do people buy bikes and just leave them in the garage? Good Question, something like "why do fish swim" - only they or their owners can tell you why.
From my perspective (2005 1200GS, with more accessories than I care to admit to) your choice should revolve around the question of reliability and accessability. Plenty of GS in Dealers for silly money, but you will get at least 12 months Warranty with them, something that might be important to you. Perhaps you might think that an older machine has "everything replaced" that might need it under warranty.
Tricky questions, but only Smarties have the answer.
Enjoy.

I think you are, unless you know somthing different about the economic forecast for the next three years. Deferring Capital Repayment is valid if you are in a period of extended inflation (eg late 80`s my small salary doubled in four years!) However in a period of low or negative inflation then it will cost you much more!
Suggest you look at taking your own finance arrangements in and looking at becoming a "cash customer".

Sorry may have got the question wrong but is the improvemnets on the 08 version better or "worth it" than an 07 or 06.

There are 07 and 06 plates advertised (with low millage) on the net cheaper as the bike is a keeper i.e 5 years or more is it worth the extra on the newer updated model. Are the upgrades worth it ???

Test rode a bmw couple of years back at a show i knew then i wanted one as it does what it says on the tin !!!!!:rob

Many thanks

Please someone just answer the qusetion :):):):D

Jim

Stand-by: Owners of 2006/2007 models will be along to tell you that there's nothing wrong with their bikes.

Owners of 2008> models will tell you that the improvements are worth it.

Perhaps an owner who has traded an earlier model for the latest will be along and suggest that the newer bike is worth it but this will no doubt be couched in terms to avoid upsetting the poor 1200 brethren who cannot afford to "trade-up" their out-of-date bikes.

Others will no doubt be along to tell you that the earlier GS's were better than any 1200 and some will tell you that they're all shite (see above reference to KTM).

The bottom-line is that you are asking for the impossible; an objective answer to a subjective question (don't worry, you're not the first and won't be the last).

You'd be much better asking; "what are the differences" and then making-up your own mind as to whether or not they are enough of a difference to warrant buying one or the other.

Sorry. I didn't give you an answer to the question either. :D

Sorry can't help bought a brand new 1200 and a brand new 1200ADV heaps of shite got a KTM now and happy as feck

Thats a bit weird ! you dont like the bike but look at the fourum , HMMMM STALKER :comfort:eek:

Ok what are the differneces big or little between the 08 model and the ealer model.

Many thanks (but not to the weried one, whos in the wrong fourm)

Jim. You're obviously new to GSer so you may not have realised that there are quite a few of us on here who used to have a GS but now haven't. There are even a few who have never had a GS at all

Now why not put your money where you mouth is and become a paying member of the site???

Enjoy your bike, whatever you end up with.

Ya don't have to pay to use the site.... so don't feel you have too.... but the FS&W section is great for cheap bits and bobs and you need to sponsor to use that bit.

The site is a lot more than just about bikes... you'll see that from the banter:augie

as long as you're not an over sensitive type you'll fit in fine

+1

I have an '05 GS, which I'm perfectly happy with and although I can afford to upgrade I can't see the differences being worth the extra outlay. I'm pretty certain though, that if I did get a new one, I'd be banging on about how much better it is.....mostly in order to convince myself i'd done the right thing. Unless you end up with a right pig you'll be happy with whichever model you buy, just take a good look at what you can afford, allow for the inevitable bolt-on extras, and get the one you like the most when sitting on it. Don't be put off by older models and don't go for newer ones for the sake of having a later number plate.

newest gsa u can get is my advice and thats what I have with all the bits rxcept the side boxes

Buy the 1200 GSA,its the best of the bunch or failing that any honda,APR? is that a new brake option?,cash is king

test ride one then get the latest bike you can afford:thumb BMW know they have had issue's of late and the earlier 1200s bore the brunt of this, thus improvements have been made:thumb2

im riding an 1150 GSA after owning the ktm for a year and to be fair im loving it:thumb2

would i have a 1200gsa if i could afford it ????? most likely:D

good luck in your search:beerjug:

In 07 bikes with ABS changed from having servo assisted brakes to a more 'conventional' ABS set up. Servos gave some trouble on early 1200's (there is a lot of info on this in the site) and some people don't like the slight delay between hitting the lever and the brakes coming on (slight as in a micro second but it is noticable). The later ABS, in my view, is the one to go for (unless you don't want abs at all). Elsewhere on the site there is quite a bit of discussion about servo failures on late 1150's and early 1200s - they cost £1400 apparently and some folk are ditching them to get a conventional non-abs set up.

I had a non abs 05 1200gs and I've just changed it for an 09 GSA with ABS. There are quite a few non abs GS and GSA's around.

Other than the ABS the 08 upgrade added a bit more bling a bit more power and a lot more smoothness. Not worth braking the bank over but it makes a great bike better.
