Which oil to use

Hi, this is a rather basic question I'm here in west africa and I need to do an oil change soon; just wondering if anyone could recomend a good brand/grade of oil, to date I have been topping up with Shell 10-40 grade oil, the temp here is BurkinaFaso is in the mid 40s so I guess q heavy grade would be best, many thanks Mike 2002 R1150GS

What I'd think to use would be more like 20 / 50 semi synthetic by Silkolene.

if the bike is well run in 30000miles plus, any decent oil will do synth, semi synth or the normal stuff

Welcome to the site As above, the heavier grade oil is better for the temperature.

Oil choices

Many thanks to all who responded, I have found the following oils available in Ghana (very hot and humid)
(a) Total Quartz 7000 10w40 Synthetic based
(b) Total Quartz 5000 20w50 Synthetic ? doesn't say
(c) Total Quartz 9000 5w40 Synthetic ?

(d) Shell Helix Super 20W50 API SG/CD

Many thanks, an now for one final stupid question, I have lived in the U.S and when I change the oil there I ususally put in 4 U.S quarts and then check the level, oil is sold in liters her how many liters should I put in (I'm too lazy to do the conversion! and I figure all of you deal in liters all the time) the bike is a 2002 1150GS Adv -Mike
