Which oil?

If it's done less than 10,000 miles it'll still use quite a bit. They don't stop using it until they've done some serious miles.
As to recommendations, every dealer seems to be different. Just use a good quality mineral till it's done at least 12,000 miles, and then switch to semi-synth if you like.
Personally, as long as it's oily, I'll use it. I've always used Halfords own brand.

Castrol GPS (£24) 4 litres - it's from the motorcycle section in Halfords.
Halfords own brand semi synth Gearbox SAE80W 90 - for the gearbox
Halfords own brand gearbox oil SAE80W 90 - for the bevel drive.
(Shop only had 1l semi synth gearbox oil in stock)
Bike has had full BWM dealer service less than 1000 miles ago, but was stood for 6 months prior to me buying it - I always do a complete oil change when buying secondhand. Old habits..and all that.
