jesse panniers in my experience. bought mine s/h off here about 7/8 years ago, brilliant.

A lot of tossers on here will no doubt vouch for verns world beaters though

me liking very much my touratwats Vega
highly usable, make a great seat and a great table - the lids are fab for preparing your camp fire food on too - and nothing can roll off them as they have an upstand on the lid! Perrfick. Wipe em down, prep on them, wipe em down, put em back on.

Varios are OK, inconvenient to pack with side opening though and feckin heavy - IMO.

BMW panniers are fine and dandy and look good IMO.
I think though that they are flimsy in comparison to some others....
So, dont ever have an off or they crumple and misshape badly and then the lid wont fit the hinges are flimsy also compared with others.
Kreiga pannier bags fit nicely but no room for anything else either in the bottom under the bag or on top of the bag under the lid.

are all good alternates and are definately more substantial boxes and frames IMO

I have to give another big thumbs up for Vern's Worldbeaters. I've tried most sorts and they are the Rolls Royce of panniers that's for sure. Super strong, brilliantly made and lightweight

My pannier of choice is the neither light nor underengineered but most certainly is the finest of the lot.

If you are to believe that the Verns are the Rolls Royce of panniers then think the Rollers of the yuppie 80's and not the venerable silver shadow.

If, however you really are serious and want the finest money can buy then you should eschew the designer Touratech or the corporate BMW, you should poo-poo the cheap Alpos, you should even discard the honourable Stahlkoffer and Jesse (what Vern copied).

No, if you are serious about the best ali pannier out there then there can only be one...

+1 for vern's however my wife has stalkoffers on her bike as she really wanted detachable panniers, have to say if I was after detachable ones it would be stalkoffer ones every time good value for money, very well built simply robust mounting system, and no fixing points on the inside of the boxes.
other than that it has to be verns, they really are the dogs dangley bits

So who takes £500 off you then gives you panniers (strange behaviour there... seems odd that someone out mugging would have a set of panniers doesn't it)... or does one make an informed personal choice based on their own circumstances and then buy what they want?

much depends on how you are going to utilise the luggage - are the panniers to be used for serious adventure riding whereby you will find yourself offroad and on dodgy surfaces - if so then your bike will no doubt fall over at some point - obviously you will require robust aluminium / metal panniers which shall withstand the occasional off - if on the other hand your idea of adventure is a week away in a bed and breakfast or a week at a fully serviced campsite then the bmw vario type pannier would in my opinion be a good option - soft luggage is also an alternative if you seldom go away - check out the "vendors" section on this website for some ideas

I've just bought my first GS an 09 Adventure, and was about to ask the same question.What Panniers?
Like the look of the Stahlkoffers.....has anyone on here any experience of these. Can't really justify lashing out a grand on some BMW ones and to be honest-they didn't look that tough anyway.

BTW- the GS exceeds all my expectations by a mile.Superb machine.
