which panniers?

I've just bought my first GS an 09 Adventure, and was about to ask the same question. What Panniers?
Like the look of the Stahlkoffers.....has anyone on here any experience of these. Can't really justify lashing out a grand on some BMW ones and to be honest-they didn't look that tough anyway.

BTW- the GS exceeds all my expectations by a mile.Superb machine.

As per my previous post, my wife has a set on her bike, for removable panniers I dont think they can be beat, quality of manufacture is top notch, there is none of the mounting system inside the box so inner bags slide in and out nicely, as and if you want them they can supply a very well made set of matching inner bags.
I like the mounting system it is robust simple and works well, you can opt for catches with key operated locks or padlocks (my personal favorite) we went with the padlock system and went and got matching padlocks from a locksmith so they all open with the same key.
Lids fit well and there is a nice optional table top so that when you take the panniers off it lays across the top and make a nice table when camping.

I fitted some Stahlkoffers today. For what I need (daily commuting and the odd camping trip) I think they'll be fine. I went with the slimmer CityKoffer, so I can still filter without too much trouble.

If I may, and no offense, but I find the Verns and the Jesses particularly ugly. Like some weird kind of huge tool boxes, or small coffins. Of course, ugliness is in the eye of the beholder.

nto much use for going down the shops but for long distance camping men
they are the best. I got TT's as in 2001 verns wernt around nor were any other ally's apart from Jessies which I think live up to their name.

Ugly? Perfect match for the bike then... :likeit

Impressed by the quality of the SW Motech TRAX panniers fitted to the Guzzi Stelvio NTX I tried the other week.

Varios are OK, inconvenient to pack with side opening though and feckin heavy - IMO.

BMW panniers are fine and dandy and look good IMO. :thumb2
I think though that they are flimsy in comparison to some others....
So, dont ever have an off or they crumple and misshape badly and then the lid wont fit :blast:pullface:roll the hinges are flimsy also compared with others.
Kreiga pannier bags fit nicely but no room for anything else either in the bottom under the bag or on top of the bag under the lid.

Vern's
TT Zega
Ard cases
Jesses
are all good alternates and are definately more substantial boxes and frames IMO :rob

I'm on Vern's list though :thumb

VERN ??? :augie

I've had every set on your list... and a few more

what about givi trekkers anyone tried those

I like the Givi Trekkers, but they're probably not comparable with the heavy-duty ally cases. As ThosO'Neal wisely pointed out, "much depends on how you are going to utilise the luggage". My habits are weekend camping and/or hotel-based touring.

I find the Givi mounting system convenient, the frames are unobtrusive when the cases aren't attached and I have a couple of soft bags which fit in the side cases for easy transfer to hotel room. The top-case easily holds an XL System helmet and a supplementary toolkit contained in a tackle-box.

I thought the dual-opening mechanism in the lids would be a gimmick, but I have used it. The square shape compared with conventional Givis means the useable space is maximised. Build quality is good, though I haven't dropped the bike on them yet to do the ultimate test.

I did "cut & shut" the mounting frames to provide a symmetrical fitting with the silencer replaced with a stubby pipe. I also welded the frames into one piece, which makes them more rigid.

Ya pays yer money and makes yer choice...

I need a set for my 800, on my previous gsa i had the bmw ones, this time im considering the wolfman soft panniers, anyone have experience of these?

PANNIERS

why dont you try metal mule balanced set for 1200 gs i know you have to change the exhaust but the bike looks so much better from behind
