A better screen
If you really want better protection and good looks, the normal Adventure screen + the winglets does make a big difference; All the bits are genuine BMW - and fit easily. the extra support of the GSA screen is ideal to mount your GPS. You will find yourself going into corners faster than you intended at first! However it will crack up a bit if you run it into a descending car park barrier; Thus I am back on the standard screen but may buy another big one next autumn.

The OEM screen drove me mad with buffeting and turbulence, so I found these solutions work for me :
1) Wunderlich Extreme Screen : 10 cm = 4 inch higher than original, with a round shape. This screen does the trick perfectly, but is only used in cold weather or on really long highway stretches.

Ergo screen
I really like the Ergo screen, hated the original. I can have my visor open with very little wind flow up to 55-60. Above that it's good too but it does wang about a bit in the breeze, following cars on motorways you might be more aware of the turbulence - so I just change lane or get past them. It's a good and thick but check that the finishing is good, I've read one comment on here where he rejected a couple. I got mine from Rainbow, up north, who were cheaper than BMW bike bits (who are very near me). I'm 5'9" and can see over it OK, I bought it with Wunderlich's version of tobinators too.

I am 1,8 m long and wear the Airoh S4 helmet. The standard wind screen simply drove me crazy
. I was really not looking forward to a long ride on my GS.
After I changed to the Givi screen (110 €, www.rad.be), I have no more issues with noise or turbulence. For me, this was absolutely the best add-on to my bike. 180 km/h with the screen of the helmet open, no problem.
but it is really an individual thing: the combination of your seat height, your helmet, your length.
In Belgium and Germany, the Wunderlich dealers will let you make a test ride with their screens

Are these ideas to reduce windblast, or to stop the noise, or both?
I am perfectly happy with the protection that I get from my screen, but the noise is a real issue. I did my first high-speed dash on the new one this last weekend (300 miles Newcastle to London in 210 minutes), and for about 150 miles was crouching down like I used to do on a sportsbike, just to stop the noise battering my ears.
I don't mind a higher force from the wind if only it was a bit less turbulent. Can the people who have posted ideas on here let me know which option they have found which best reduces that?

Oh, and edited to say that at 5'10", anything much taller than the original screen might start to be a bit of a problem for me.
The current screen is putting me off any long high-speed trips to get to the fun bits of road.

@ pistonbrokescooby : I too find that the flowjet screen actually improves the bike not only visually, but it really makes for a more nimble ride. Fun ! See link below for more info.

I'm 181cm high, that's just over 6ft. I testdrove both Ergo and Xtreme screen at the Wunderlich shop in Sinzig. Changed screens myself, then did some highway nearby. The Ergo screen gives an even better protection, but I found that's like riding around with a big sail in front of you, not my cup of tea (same goes for BMW's adventure screen). The Xtreme screen is perfect for me on long trips.

I have a taller screen, came with the bike, but can't seem to reduce the wind pressure, has anyone tried one of these with positive results...???

Wind noise
It is quite obvious that wind noise, turbulence, etc; can be put into the same category as tyre wear, petrol consumption, comfort, etc.etc. It just varies from individual to individual; I feel sure that the noise problem is more a question of helmet design than screen height or width. 'They' say that the Schuberth C2 ( or C3 if you are rich enough) is the quietest helmet but I have not tried one - yet. I have friends who like a loud exhaust note 'with character' but they have to wear ear plugs for long journeys. That sounds a bit anti social to me. Look at the number of special silencers available and the cost of them. They don't really give much extra power (with a few exceptions) but they all make a different (noisier ?) note.

wife has just ordered one for my birthday ,7 again .
in a go faster matt black ,should be fitted on by 13 th next month , at the moment using the bike with no screen , can get rather windy at speed .not going to incriminate myself with any figures .

Just look at the screen on thread 9 - the tinted GSA screen as fitted by JBL. It looks right on the bike, it is a genuine BMW part and easy to fit and it will cut down a great deal on wind pressure (and you will find yourself going too fast into corners at first!) It does not cost very much more than a Wunderlich screen and you can transfer it to your next GS/GSA if you are lucky, but not if it gets hit by a descending car park barrier as mine was;

Same here. Should get my flowjet any day now, and am currently driving without a screen - which solved the buffeting. Actually no screen still provides pretty good wind protection. The only problem is bugs and rain droplets are heaviear than air and thus don't quite follow the air flow, and no screen looks a bit weird. But no more buffeting
I'm 6'4" and my seat is quite a bit higher too.
i've tried GSA with wunderlich spoiler, original screen with wunderlich spoiler (up, dow, horizontal), cut down GS screen at various stages - all no solution to the turbulence & buffeting I experienced

got the tinted screen and NN winglets on my white GS. i'm also 5 10'' and can easliy see over the top in highest position. much less buffeting ( none) and noise ( acceptable)than standard. highly recommended though that givi one is probably the most functional but i prefer the looks of the adventure and it does the job well enough.
