Which single?

Personally I think the G650Xchallenge will go over/through anything that any other bike can do, with the right tyres of course !

It does feel heavier, but it is a more powerful machine. I'm happy with it appart from the gearing which I don't think is low enough when riding real slow, but this can be resolved by dropping on a smaller front sprocket.

Thanks mate. It's still on the contender list although I am taking seriously what the other guys are advising regarding my experience level v bike performance.

The DR-Z would give you a bit more power but with about 10-15kgs more weight than the ttr i think. I've run one for the last couple of years and are novice friendly, easy to work on, lots of spares available so relatively cheap to look after. they are quite tall so you may need the lowering links again readily available. am in the throws of moving up to the xch myself as i loved riding it on the bmw ors course and it seemed to suit me better, mind you 18 months ago when i first rode one i didnt like it at all:eek: after all is said and done if i find the xch too much or not suitable for the riding i do (which i doubt :p) i'd get a drz again or the wr250r if they come down to a sensible price

5' 10" and currently ride a 12GSA

you should be ok, then - although the ten could be a couple of inches higher, its much lighter and more manageable.

I had a test ride and din't like it too much, but bought it anyway and now love it.

Power to weight isn't far off my 1100GS

Ok see you at Neros 1200 Thursday. I'll be wearing a wax cotton bike jacket if Im not on the bike or a red and black Dainese bike jacket if I'm on it. (Middle aged tosser with spectacles)
Wishing you and Mat all the best on your first blind date :ymca

So, I'm thinking of buying a single cylinder for general offroading, green lanes etc.

Which would you go for, a 650 x challenge or a Yam WR 450 F
(or something else?) and why??

In amongst the obligatory and anticipated p*ss take replies, a couple of sensible suggestions would be appreciated.

I am interested to know which you think would be the most reliable, easiest to work on, cheapest to run, fun to ride etc. etc.

Bear in mind that I want something I can ride on the road to the offroad trails.

I appreciate this is the x challenge forum so I might not get a balanced reply but try your best boys!

Cheers, Ken.

Ken,
I have had the G650x and now have a husky TE610 both great bikes with 2 year warranty. The 650 was superb on the road and very caperable off road. Its engine is superb but the gearbox is a bit of compromise and I found very notchy.I swapped to the husky as its a little more off road biased, still has plenty of power for the road and has a 6 speed sweet gearbox. Its really a 580cc machine so it bridges the gap between a 450 and a full on 650 you still get a chunky bike with a large tank yet it can mix it up with the enduro bikes.May be worth a look.
