Which will retain greater value ?

I think that if you're buying a bike for the residual values, you're pretty much missing the point of having a bike :augie

I agree: How do you equate spending £16k on a 'bike with being tight or in any way concerned about money?

:blast

Aren't they completely different bikes? I always though that in previous generations the RT was the relaxed luxury bike and the GS was the more sporting choice. Assuming this stays the same for the WC versions then which bike you want is more important than what they're worth after a couple years.

Seems like an odd question. As others gave said, both bikes are completely different. Buy with the heart, and get what YOU want. Both will lose loads of money as soon as you ride them off the forecourt, so just enjoy the bike. Worry about residuals for boring purchases.:rob All that aside, I reckon the GSA will hold its value better, and is the better bike.:thumb

I hope the GSA lol
But hay I don't care get what you think is right for you
It's the skoda thing it gets you there but for sum not how you want to lol

Kinda with Timpo on this one....when ever was buying a new bike an "investment"? It is all about value for money. The value being the enjoyment you get from it. Get the one you want.....if you don't you will end up chopping the bike in early to get the one you really wanted in the first place ....and that is the expensive way round.

Been there done that, and it took me years to recover from the financial hit. Anything you buy for fun, always follow your Heart.

Me too...came off an 1150GS and went for a 1200RT as Mrs Oldnfat and I were going to be touring more as the kids had grown up. The RT is a great bike BUT for me the GS was MUCH more fun. The Mrs also preferred the GSA....less buffeting for the pillion and more leg room according to her. Fortunately I was able to do a fair swop with someone from this site who fancied a change from their GS so not a painful mistake that is could have been.

I guess the answer is to get a real good test ride on both and then go for the one you prefer!

Cheers
