I'm having to replace my 2610 now.

Do all Zuvi's and Zumo's come with Mapsource and the ability to create routes on a PC then upload to the unit? Or is it only supplied with certain models / ranges?

I'm sure this question must have been asked before, but I'm getting millions of hits when I try and search the relevant terms.

Cheers PB

Um... Nuvi or Zumo? Nuvi for yer car/van/truck; Zumo for the bike.
Dunno if they all have Mapsource but if it's a Zumo you're interested in then presumably it's a 550 or 660 you're thinking of.
In which case yes, the latest map versions are as you suggest. 660 is larger, more 'widescreen'. Check out interweb for Garmin refurbed models. Probably 100.00 cheaper and also the HD dealers as the HD branded thing is the same. If you can cope with the finger pointing cos your GPS is :ymca
Then you can worry about which mount to buy and which Bluetooth intercom to get the directions! :D

I tend you put in co-ords from googlemaps direct into it and go from there rather than any of the roadtrip or whatever options.

I got a refurbished Nuvi (765). It didn't come with mapsource on a DVD, but when I downloaded the up to date maps (under Garmin nuMaps scheme where you can download latest maps once off free of charge), the installer had the option of installing mapsource.

Missus has a Nuvi 37something (recent model) and it didnt come with mapsource but you can download it separate.
However routes created and loaded from mapsource dont appear on the device. it seems only waypoints are transferable to it.

As said, Nuvis don't come with Mapsource, Zumos do. You can use Mapsource for loading Favourites to any Nuvi or Zumo but it will only load routes to Zumos and certain higher end Nuvis. Look in the 'Specifications' tab on the relevant page (for the device you have in mind) of the Garmin website. If there is, for example '10' next to 'routes' in the list then that device is capable of following a route specified in Mapsource.

The number of routes is what the device can show in it's menus for immediate use. You can store as many as you like on an SD card and load them into the menu as you need them. Due to this the number of routes isn't a limitation if you are thinking of using one for a longer tour. Best to split a tour up into days or even less.
