In Birmingham, might not be to everyone’s taste, the fellow (who certainly knows how to cook) is opening a restaurant in London.

As it’s conveniently local to me (and even if it wasn’t) I’ll give it a visit when it’s settled down:

Just looked online via Google maps and photos of the menu shown on there doesn't appear to have any prices, does that mean it's free?

The restaurant’s (which isn’t yet open) own website doesn’t show any menu, priced or otherwise. At least none that I can see. Do you have a screenshot?

Will it be cheap or very expensive? Who knows? Gunpowder (another very good Indian in Spitalfields and at another site close to Borough) isn’t cheap but the food is very good and far from a run o’ the mill Bangladeshi run generic curry house as you’ll find on any High Street.

If I had to guess it will cost more than a generic ‘Taste of India’ chicken tikka masala and a pint of Cobra but less than Brum’s two Michelin starred place. Clearly demand in Brum can support the fellow’s mother restaurant or it’d go bust.

We’ll see when it’s open.

I was looking on Google maps where some photos had been posted of menus for the Birmingham restaurant without prices. I've had another look online and found this

The menu sample linked to is a 10 course tasting menu and, I guess, a pretty good experience. Would it be somewhere to eat every day? Probably not, unless you played number 9 for Aston Villa.

A bit too posh / expensive for my taste although I have tried a few variations in Laaahdun’s East End / City area from the GunPowder to DilChad and the usual production line mass curry houses in Brick Lane
A curry for me is all about getting good grub for a fair price…..and thats purely subjective as well.

Ironically, Chef Islam is not a practising Muslim.

His Opheem in Birmingham has a hew Halal dishes but is mostly catering for diners without that requirement. Affluent visitors and wealthier residents of places like Edgbaston rather than those from more modest districts like Sparkbrook.

That rules out most of the curry houses in the world, along with my local fish and chip shop. It also precludes most if not all Jewish restaurants.
