But of an odd one but I’m trying to work out what’s causing a whine when I lean the bike at any reasonable pace (>40mph more pronounced above 60mph)

I thought it was my front tyre but I’ve changed tyres and brand and it’s still there.

There’s a lot of wind noise in this video but you can just hear it in the background. With a helmet on if you swap the wind and whine volume it’s more like how it is to me.

Any suggestions?

My rear tyre does it, both Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2 and previously fitted Continental Road Attack 3.
It is happening when the bike leant over and the side tread profile then does come much closer to the tarmac surface, a combination of the two surfaces being in close proximity to each other, which is what causing the tread grooves to trap the air and generate the noise. A bit like a whistle, nothing happens until you force the air into the (barrel) trap.

I'd say it is a perfectly normal tyre response - I have noticed this on all 6 of my GS's over the years. I suspect the only tyres that would not do this are slicks!

Had an issue with the link not being open to all so that should be fixed now.

Just watched and listened to the video - I have always had the same whine, I believe it is entirely normal for treaded tyres on a GS

Huh. Good to know I guess. Never noticed it like that on my hexhead!

Yep, also had it on other “adventure” bikes, with various tyre brands and models, nothing unusual me thinks

For peace of mind, maybe give both wheels a good wiggle to check for any play. That should eliminate any bearing / FD concerns which leaves the tyres as being even more likely.

Yep - I did give the front a wiggle to see if it moved but it’s hard without someone holding the bars still. Didn’t seem to have any play in it though as I was concerned it could be a bearing issue

Whine absolutely normal on a GS or GSA with Michelin Anakee, Continental Trail Attack 3 or Bridgestone A41.

Been riding GS’s many years on many different tyres, some are louder than others but they all whine when leant over.

I did not have it on my 1150 but on 1200 LC it is very load, found it to be front tyre. There are several forums mentioning this. Just loud when upright but whining in corners. Bridgeton was the worst Avon seem better but still there. Scorpions aslo loud. Wonder if the pre LC 1200 had the same issue?

Well I had it on the Anakees and I have it on the A41s so good to know.

Thanks all
My 1250gsa A41s were really noisy. CTA3s did it a bit when worn.

Michelins were quiet - noticeably when I fitted my first set.

I’ve have 2 hex heads and they didn’t whine like the LC does.

Going to try a cheap cockpit infill panel and see if that helps.
