White Nights

The first day on the road is over and done with. It was wet all day, just a spell of fine drizzle that I managed to get some shots of the cars done in, but it was very much a day of finding our feet. Driving on the right is intuitive, once you have got going, but walking, I still can't work out where the traffic is coming from or going!

Having left Copenhagen we drove fabulous roads through the Swedish forests and rolling countryside. It is difficult though, once the cars are past, there is no catching up until coffee stop, and then the first ones are already away before we get there. No stop for us, flask in the car! I managed to get a couple in the can. We had a roe deer run right in front, 10 yards away, no more. We didn't hit it., thankfully. Lunch was a take out from where the cars were stopping too., which gave us time to get ahead, but only 4 came on the route. We never saw the others all day.

Today we go from Jonkoping to Stockholm via direction of: Granna, Adelov, Vaderstad, Marstad, Skanninge, Linkoping, Soderkoping, Loddby, Husby, Jonsker, Nykoping, Skansholmen ferry, There are two ferries on today's route. The second one is where I should get some nice shots.

Being able to get the car out of the way is a problem. The forest roads are only single track, yesterday was 'getting in the groove' day, Anna will have to drop me off, go and find somewhere to park up and then come back and get me. Yesterday some of the good spots would have been a 10km return !
Today we shall have a better idea and have some hilly bits at about the 30km mark. Then the second ferry is one they want. Hopefully if the sun shines we can get some scenics, putting the cars in a sense of location.
Hitting the road now, some of them are leaving are 08.00. No peace for the wicked!

Anna drove for most of today. I got a shot or two of the Aston in front of the hotel

They left early and we didn't see them again until later today, apparently a vacuum hose has sprung a leak but nobody knows where it goes. Even Aston Martin workshop, who answered the phone on a Sunday!
We made sandwiches and managed to get in front a couple of times. Fabulous roads, again.

Some great photos there. What a great thing to do, following the rally (I've been to watch the cars come thru various points on the LeJoG rally a few times. Some great cars and reall mix....like this lot. Thanks for taking the time to share...you must be busy as it is!

Hear hear to that.
Love the Bentleys . . . . the fastest motor lorries in Europe as Ettore Bugatti once said.
The Bentleys do look and sound fantastic. One went the other way yesterday. The Brigadier. Owned by the man that has the Craven Arms at Appletreewick. Lovely old car that is occasionally parked outside the pub.

Stockholme done. On the road to Mora today, 350km route.
The boat tail Bently is 'Smoky', a very famous race car, Smoky II is the same but 5" lower and bulkhead 5" back, gave it an extra 12mph - lapped Brooklands at 130mph. This owner, Mike Thomson, owns both. He is the largest producer of eggs in the UK.
Jag XK150 owns a private bank, not at liberty to say name.
Volvo owns Sywell aerodrome where Triumph test ridev4 or 5 days a week. Plus events and the flying.
GT350 was Hong Kong police, now top criminal lawyer. Wife is PhD in education. They are using this as a shake down for 2028 Peking-Paris rally.

I'll find out more as we go along.

Wow! Fantastic photos Simon. You and Anna are really having a ball aren't you. Fabulous. 👏 (What's the midges like🤔)

No midges to speak of yet. Lashing down outside. Trying to process pics as I go along and just taking a snap of the computer screen to post here, saves resizing. WhatsApp on my computer refuses point blank to load any because they are too big so it's an easy way of sharing a few.
Mora to further north today on dirt roads. An easier day but early start because of the slower pace.
Ryvita making plant. Cooked like pizzas.

Tracking shots taken out the boot, or sitting on the window call looking forwards - dust gets in your eyes I have discovered!20250701_095135.jpg20250701_095148.jpg20250701_135810.jpg20250701_095135.jpg20250701_095148.jpg20250701_135810.jpg20250701_135856.jpg20250701_140413.jpg20250701_160702.jpg20250701_222341.jpg20250701_222311.jpg20250702_003510.jpg20250702_003607.jpg20250702_003714.jpg

Fantastic pictures, thanks for posting. The Aston or the Jag for me, followed by the Volvo. All lovely though.

The rain eventually cleared, the windscreen is smattered with a curve the driver can see through. The roads are filthy when wet. To salvage a very trying day I put the drone up when we saw the ferry and scenic sound it crosses. Phwew, disaster averted, something to show for our efforts. Saw a moose, it came out about 50 yards ahead and just stodd in the road, back legs in the middle of our lane, front legs in the middle of the opposite lane. They are huge! I grabbed my camera and went to get a picture but it took 2 strides and was gone into the trees. Then later we had a blue hare run across in front of the car and later still an arctic fox vixen with a cub at the side of the road. I think she was moving them. Tomorrow we go further north again through more of Sweden's forest roads, this is a vast country that we don't seem to recognise the expanse of. The people are so compliant and polite - we have yet to see a single piece of litter of any description since Denmark. These folks have total respect for everything and everyone around them.

No tolls, the ferries are seen as an essential part of the road network. A little bit of stage management was needed to get the classic cars on the front, but the locals and ferry captain were only too happy to help.

Lashing with rain this morning to drive from Ostersund to Lyksele. a 408Km route with much of it on gravel roads, in the wet. The cars were competing for regularity on sections of it.
Lunch was at a BBQ House, dinner in the Hotel Lappland as we are now officially in Lapland but still in Sweden. Reindeer steak cooked rare, it was fantastic.

more pics, the tracking shots Anna drives and I sit out through the window, left leg hooked under the dashboard so I have freedom of movement to swing the camera. After lunch we came round a corner, on the muddy gravel, to be met by the herd of goats coming towards us. Good job we weren't driving like we were in the morning!
Our hotel, and again at midnight - the midnight sun, or White Night, which is where the rally has taken it's name.
