Hi Guys, on my GS1250 when the phone is connected l get a white square box (probably about 20mm square), does any one know what its for or more importantly how to do something with it. Last year when i went abroad i think it gave me KMH speed limit for where i was driving. But now its not doing anything !!

On my TFT this is where the speed limit shows from the BMW connected app downloaded on my phone. Appears in a small white box about that size. My phone is connected to the TFT. Can't think what else it may be.

You can turn it off - I did.

Anyone know how to turn off the gear change arrow - an inverted V above the current gear display, comes on when the bike wants you to change.

It is the current speed .
You need the connected app on your phone AND the map data for the location.
Its a very handy icon.
Best is when you're on the German autobahns.... "NO LIMIT"

You can turn it off in menu

And cars still fly past as though your stood still when you think your going quick.

The square appeared for me - once I had connected the app.

I've downloaded the map data to the app (and I can see it there) but even though the bike can see the app is connected (the 'navigation' option becomes live in the TFT) the square remains blank i.e does not show speed limit. ??????

I've looked through all the menus of the TFT and the app but I can't see how to turn it on.

Baffled!

Anyone have any idea?

Doug,
If you have a connection, Phone to TFT, the App downloaded, and the maps installed, The white box will show the current speed of that road. However, If you are off the road, or on de classified road, the box will be white. I've even been on some major roads and it didn't show the speed.

Hmmmm. I have all that and am in London. Bit zilch, nada . . . .

Just went for a short ride (20 minutes to supermarket) and I notice the app had not recorded anything - despite being set to record anything longer than 10 minutes.

Puzzled

Just found this in the manual . ..

Switching Speed Limit Info on or off:

Requirement
  • Vehicle is connected to the Nav-igator or a compatible mobile end device.
  • The BMW Motorrad Connected App is installed on the mobile end device.
Speed Limit Info displays the maximum speed currently permitted.
Call up the Settings, Display menu. Switch Speed Limit Info on or off.

Will try tomorrow.

You may have to allow the App in your phone to have access to your location all of the time, otherwise you have to open the App each time before you ride for it to record rides. ;-)

Hi guys, I have been away for three days, the night before i left l found i did not have any map data on the phone so put on the North of England (had fabulous 3 days and done 700 miles in the Border/Northumberland and into Scotland). So now the white box displays the speed limit (although have to say not alway very accurate !). On the way up i had to make sure the app was running on the front screen, then this morning there was an update to the app and it says you must make sure 'location' is always running and today on the way back its been working all day. Then also today i put in a destination on the app and on the bottom screen that turned into a 'navigation' screen and was giving me directions !

I had put the map data on before but one of the updates must have lost all that data !!!

Can't comment on Android phones, but on iOS (Apple) phones you need the Connected app open for the speed limit to show.

I must admit since purchasing my GS I can't credit how many connections and apps you have to have open at any one time for your headset to talk to the bike / the sat nav / for apps to work etc etc. Jeez!
