Who is using H7 100W ?

Not sure about the heat given off from the 100w bulbs but the can bus thingy will almost certainly see the extra current drawn as a fault and isolate that light circuit.
Seem to remember a bm spannerman saying the circuit only has a 10% tolerance.
However, I have never tried it so it might work.

Why bother?

Get a pair of these and don't risk frying the wiring. I haven't got any auxilliary lights and these do a great job. You can probably get them cheaper on eBay.

I would worry more about the lamp reflector than the wiring. Not that I wouldn't worry about the wiring too :)

Good to see the anti-paranoia tablets kicking in! :eek

I've tried the Xenon lamps and the headlight is still poor, the main beam just does not give a pool of light on the road. I thought about the 100w lamps but I think the extra heat\current drawn will cause problems. I think the only answer is to fit some small spots. The general illumination seems OK, IMO it just needs a better high beam. Does anyone know of some good-looking unobtrusive efficient spots ??

I'm using an H7 Bulb that is rated @ 70 watts...

so far the bulb has not caused any problems with either the can bus or the lens. I've ridden 8 straight hrs. in heat, rain and cold and so far no problemo's !

Just to add my opinion about 100 watts..... Remember the Strar Trek "to boldly go where no man has gone before" well if you put that puppy in your headlight assembly I wish you the best of luck. The 70 had me worried cause if you think you can put your hand on the lens after a few minutes forget it... You'll burn your hand it does run very hot. I too realize that the lighting system isn't the best .. so I've been saving for some aux. lighting (Touratech, PIAA).

The only reason i'm using these chineeeese knock-offs is cause they cost $6.00 cdn.

I have the Touratech fogs fitted. At least they don't need a full bar assembly. They look quite neat, but all aux lights will be 'obtrusive'. Main point is that they are expensive and a pain to fit (I phoned a friend :o ).

I am still adjusting them to get the best throw of light, but it is looking promising.

I did.......

Bulb blew and the little garage I found late on a Sunday only had the one bulb a 100 watter.

I guess it was installed and used for about 4 hours. No problems found.

I changed it out before I next used the bike. I bought one of those blue/white light bulbs. decent light and 55w rated.

I have kept the other for emergencies, but wouldn't like to keep it in long term.

Philips GT150's

I have fitted these to my 1200 and they help a bit, but I wouldn't call the lights brilliant !

Halfords sell a small set of 55w spots for £26.99 made by Ring or a slightly larger Blue set for £39.99 i(ncluding wiring and relay with these) There is a post on here somewhere showing a set of the blue ones fitted (by Mouse I think)
I have just bought a set of the small ones, but have yet to decide how to fit them

Cheers, Piggers

The Toratech are really good. I am curious, did you fit two fogs ? I was either going to order one fog & one driving light or two driving lights.

If your using two fogs do you find the fogs helpfull in regular night riding conditions? I would like to know your opinion of the throw of the light and your general impression of illumination ?

The last question is how did you wire up the lights ? What switches , relay's and finally where do you tap in ? Is it a plug and play thingy or is it much more complicated cause of Canbus. The alternator is a whole other issue which could be disussed later..... cheers hp :clap

A guy on another site told me that he put in brighter bulbs and that the brown plugs that the bulbs go into melted and were ruined. He contacted the bulb vendor and they laughed at him, claiming that their bulbs put out the same heat as stock bulbs. So, I would want to check the condition of my plugs and lamps frequently to catch anything before it went too far, if it were me.
