Just thought i'd let you see what they can turn out like - A customers 1200GS after being serviced, now up to 98K miles.

Great to see a positive thread for our 1200s.

I would like to hazard a guess that the owner uses it rain or shine all the time but like mine (which I commute on every day) it is garaged and washed every weekend. It's not rocket science. If you look after your bike (whatever make it is). It will last. I can only dream of getting that kind on mileage though

My last bike was a ten year old vfr800 VTEC which again I used every day and cleaned every week and it still looked brand new.

The guy clearly has great taste in bike mechanic too

My 08 has paint rusting through on the back subframe and the under tank headstock brace is a mess. The back end is easy to clean but it's still rusty. The headstock never gets washed. So why would both be rusty?

The fact that you have to point out the exeption proves the rule.

Another classic example of lack of cleaning getting a vehicle a bad reputation for being a rust bucket.

The owner also owns a very nice CBX1000, with huge miles on the clock. In fact he owns a few interesting bikes, all bought new and all with huge mileages.

Just after the picture was taken he was off on the 1200 GS for a 5k mile ride around europe, so i expect it has now crossed the 100K mile mark. .

A mate of mine sold his ZZR1400 as it was high mileage and he was worried about it getting unreliable....

Japanese bikes do the miles just the same Iv had a few some the engine & frame paint is like new others suffer corrosion ??? modern oils changed regular n good tolerances in well designed bikes no reason they can't look at the bikes dispatch riders use they know what lasts

my 05 1200 is on 94k and going strong,doesnt get pampered either,
everythings done once a year, except washing which doesnt.
