who said bmws hold there value ?
just been to kearys in cork and decided to get a value for my bike
im still feeling weak from the shock
my bike is a 08 1200gs (new model) just two years old with 14k on clock fully loaded with all factory options available that cost me just shy of €19k when bought new
offered for it as trade in against new bike €9,200
yes €9,200
i know theres a recession on but surely not that bad
or maybe im living behind the times

If you buy the wrong Bike it will always drop like a stone

Airheads are going up

Ouch! that'll cheer the guy up :augie

The only thing to do is keep the bike, and don't go anywhere near BMW dealerships for a good few years ~

It's brutal alright. I've seen 08 GSA's going for similar money on DoneDeal.

9200Euro.................about right here, but I know you pay more tax initially in Eire

I'm not being smart here, but, if you've got a 2 year old 1200GS with low miles, why do you need a new bike. You've already got a hell of a bike right there on your drive. Enjoy it.

dont get me wrong i love the bike to bites even with the problems
just wanted to know value of my bike as i am looking at new multistrada
at the present value i will definitly be keeping it

I have a 09 1200 GSA and was offerd 12,400 euto on a trade in. I wont be taking that deal.My bike is for sale on this form and done deal but no takers. I will quite happily keep the bike but I like to change every year and have done so more or less for the last 10 years. I always seem to persuade myself that I need to and also convince the wife of the merits of changeing-usally costs me a new car though. Seriousley I do a lot of milage(for a bike) and there will be 30,000 miles (50,000 km) on it next year. I am tempted to keep it 10 years and see how much it is worth with 150,000 miles. I think dealers are takeing the piss. JJH

My 5 year old was bought new.
3rd new bike in 30 + years - mostly I bought 2nd hand.
It's @ 80,000 Kilometers now & is commercially worthless.
To me it has a value that transcends commerce.
I bought it to keep - when it starts to terminally decay (always a hard call) I'll replace it but would not buy new again.
Bikes are an emotional decision rather than an economic one but them dealers are driven by commerce not by sentiment - they'll not be taking my cash (or :pissl) again for some time.
Be tempted & enjoy the temptation.

Therein lies the problem.

I bought my GS new as a "keeper" but it wasn't to be. I bought my current mount, a Deauville, as a stop gap winter hack commuter with the intention of getting something "better" as soon as my body allowed. I'm still riding the Deauville :blast

Used

Its nice to have a new bike but the money you say goodbye to is a joke,my 990adv is mint had 5k on it when i bought it has a shed load of extras and paid about 4K less than a new one.If your gonna buy and own a bike till it falls apart then thats the only time buying new makes sense, but most bikers dont buy with their head and we all like a change so buy mint used and dont take a big hit when you change........imho:Motomartin

Everything depreciates. NEVER TRUST A SALESMAN!

Do your own research and find out the real cost of ownership. If you can accept the cost then buy it .. then enjoy!

19K - you must be having a larf. If I had 19k to invest in a bike i would have bought a collectors item if I wanted it to be worth anything three years later.

Even a Bayliss 1198R bought 2 years ago for 30K is only worth 21K now, and they are limited editions

Keep the 1200, wait 3 months a buy Nick Marshalls Multi with 400 miles for 8k as a second bike. When the Multi is off the road for three months waiting for spares to arrive because the lazy fecking Italians have 10 weeks summer holiday, you will still have something to ride.

When did Nick buy a Multistrada?

Must text him to go have a look :D

Unless their parts are cheaper. For example, a cam chain tensioner costs 20 yoyo's in duffys ex vat. it's 35 pounds from motorworks ex shipping...

just my worthless 2 cents
