I bought a pair of R100RS carbs off the forum and Scrimminger fettled them. Also, my biggest gripe was if I went onto reserve and didn't flick the petrol tap ( part of the conversion ) quickly enough, then you would have to suck the petrol through again !!!
Very unusual for Steve to release the bike with a problem like that, did he do all of the conversion?

Was going down this route myself, looking at the best part of £1000, parts, mods, time etc. The key to success (black art) is in the modification of the airbox
With that in mind, I thought that it was worth trying one of GSJohns tuning chips, gotta say it does all that I expected from the carb conversion and at over £900 in pocket it turned out to be a wise move. Really easy to do as well
On one of my 4 11GS that I've had I looked at the carb conversions especially after Kenny's write up etc... My latest one is easily the best running with a free revvy engine... £40 on a GS John chip filled in the middle very well and I now have a peachy 5 speeder that runs as I want... It still has a bit of the 11's jumpy running at low speeds but not nearly as much as some... Great engine and I'm keeping it...
I have owned this bike for a year http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showth...ection/page3?highlight=Bye+Bye+fuel+injection
Completely reliable and rides superbly. I think a gs should be great bike for trickling along in say third gear at 20 mph enjoying the scenery, cruising through a village but the lumpiness of both 1200 fi versions I owned made this difficult. My Carbed 1100 is smooth as a baby at 15 mph in third, 25 mph in 5th. Don't think it cost Gary that much but a sorted Carbed gs is a rare and wonderful thing
Who's converted to carbs, what do you think of the difference and how hard was it?
And would you do it again?
Thanks mines a 1150 and just looking in to it
If you want carb-like performance from an 1150, all you need to do is mount an AF-XIED and dial it to setting 8. That will move the mixture about 8% richer, from 14.7:1 to 13.5:1. That means you'll be running much closer to Best Power Mixture--smooth, nice roll-on power and easy riding between 2200-3200 rpm.
John's chips don't richen the mixture in the low-mid rpm or power range, but they do advance timing there. I think the af-XIED will give you the experience your looking for. Or if you're an engineer, add an Innovate Motorsports LC-2 which can do the same thing and add AFR measurement.
