Got a bit of a problem had a small prang this year, my fault no problem with that.

Just got my renewal in the post gone up to £690 from £200 and wiped off 5 years NCD!

Tried money supermarket only quote that came back was for 9k FFS! All the rest declined

So it means a good old fashioned ring round, before I do I just thought i would ask and see who's giving good prices at the minute?

Bikes a TC GSA

Many thanks

Andy

Really? Cornmarket (formerly Adelaide) seem to be gradually creeping up each year and this renewal (for me at least) the insurer is being changed so there's an increase in premium plus a change from £250 mandatory excess to £350.
So I'll be looking around as well.

Hi! I've been insured with Swinton for last 2.5 years ( f650gs Dakar) and found them good until April .... I bought f800gs and asked them for swapping remaining few months from Dakar to new baby ... Not a problem they said... 4 months till end of your current period of insurance will be "only" £212  thought sod it- how much is it going to be to cancel and buy full year? .... £675 :eek::mad: thought - sod it - just cancel it .... £50!!!!!! Considering I've paid £124 for a year that just really peed me off but after 40 mins on the phone I said what I felt and canceled it... Went on various comparison sites and ended up with go compare - £198 fully comp with Hastings ( bare in mind I only passed my test in August 2012) - just shows what a robbing b******s insurers are and if you don't shop around you most certainly gonna get ripped off ... My advice is check few comparison sites to get the best deal ( sorry for stating the obvious lol) good luck mate !

Carol Nash were best for me this year, BMW were given and chance to quote but they dont seem to want to stay in business anymore so CN won. Its not the cheapest premium necessarily but the overall package is by far the best.

I'm with them and they have quoted a higher renewal each year for the last few years. All I do is an internet search to find the best comparable cover quote and then send it to them. Each time they've matched it and as a result I'm now paying less than ever before :thumb2:)

Thanks guys for the feedback so far, keep it coming.

Greg my current insurance is with hastings, and they have been a nightmare to deal with over the claim. I wont be using them again.

So far the main players include:
Carol Nash
Bmw
Bikesure

I worked out why I couldn't get prices jt wasn't the claim, it was because I was honest about mods, cat removed, custom seat and crash bungs. Leave this blank and everyone will price it. Still quite a hike though.

I called Bikesure and gave them all of the mods to my S10... Shock, exhaust, luggage, crash bars etc and they couldn't have been more helpful. Decent quote too.

Online systems are great when you have a bog standard bike and driver record but you need a person to deal with when things get more interesting.

Matt

Given that you've experienced poor service from an insurance company, how about looking for a well regarded one, rather than shopping purely on price?
After a brilliantly handled claim (bike fire abroad), I will give Aviva first look at every renewal. They are also extremely competitive. I was insured with them through Devitts, but renewed with them through Carole Nash as the deal was better...

this guy tried very hard to get me to move from Carole Nash - only the included Euro breakdown cover swung it in her favour

Conor McManus
www.cornmarketinsurance.co.uk
Tel – 028 9044 2200

His first quote was way off but he found another underwriter and phoned back or emailed me. All for a commission on a £100 policy.

Just changed bikes. One month left on my policy with complete cover. Who say they can't swap the policy from old to new bike due to value limits on my current underwriter.
But we can re quote you for you new an cancel the old.

I ask if they will honour 11 months ncd? Sorry sir no.
Plus a cancellation fee which is £50. Only 150 quid a year for the insurance!

They didn't want to help me out or even try any work arounds.

But..

Phoned Bikesure. Really helpful guy on the phone.
Found me a good price and cover.
Mainly found a underwriter that would give me a months grace for my Ncd to come off my old bike at the end of that policy.

So I really recommend Phoning Bikesure. Plus us tossers get a discount ;)

Hi Andy - hopefully you got sorted now with Hastings but that sounds familiar- my misses had same problems with them when someone crashed into her car 2 years ago ... Thought it was just a single case so gave them a go .... Fingers crossed I won't have to deal with them and thanks for sharing-I'll bare it in mind next time I'm insuring ;)
