I've seen a few Zumo 550's for sale recently... why are people selling, is there a new one coming out?

I'm about to buy a new one for £345

Cheers Wreford

been thinking the same having just bought one and after years of using a PDA its the best thing on my bike!?? there is a new Nuvi coming out with flat wider screen but does not have Mp3 it looks cooler too, but the controls do not look so rugged?

happy with my purchase.....I will not gey buyers remorse!!!:thumb2

Must be the rumour of another latest must have new model on the horizon

I'll stick to the 2610 I bought cheap when they all bought the Zumo.

Why the bloody hell everything these days has to do a multiple of things I don't know. Have a phone that you can make calls on, an ipod that you can listen to music on, a camera that you can take photos with and a GPS that tells you how to get somewhere.

Still I suppose if you are the type of person that thinks a motorbike should have a dash board that tells you your tyre presures, outside temp and any number of other things a musical GPS is a must

The 3 people that i know who had Zumos have all got rid of them because of reliabilty issues, mainly to do with the cradle.

I was going to get one but heard a few complaints about faulty cradles, borne out with mates' problems and also don't want all the extra crap such as Bluetooth and music so am sticking with the 2610 until something worth upgrading too appears.

I have the 550 and it's a good piece of kit. The MP3 player is not great because of the limited number of tunes that I can seem to get on the SD card. I've never managed to get more than 50 or so tunes on it.

But anyway, the 550 is a great unit, if you're after phone connection etc... It's a bit slower than my 2820 that I have on my K1200S, but generally a good unit.

IMHO it's not worth any where near the 500 quid is used too be sold at... I paid around 330 from Amazon.

Now it's connected to my Starcom, I'm really happy with it!

Stats - 11 Zumos forsale v 29 2610's (even more if you include 26xx range).

Often its the 2610's upgrading to a Zumo...

Trippy, for what I have seen, you still have no feckin Idea how to work the 2610 as yet as it is, with the extra features of the Zumo, your head would implode for sure...Luddite :fiddle

I know how to put a waypoint in and go to it.
I know how to make a route on the laptop, transfer it to the unit and follow it.
Thats all I want it for.

Now you have that fancy Zumo that you know how to use, you just have to go somewhere

That's an issue specific to you and your usage I'd suggest, I run 3 x 2GB SD cards each has approximately 1000 songs on all in a folder called MP3 and all albums in their own subfolder.

The information for how to do that can be found in Whatton's excellent how to guide in the Zumo section of GPS on here. First thing I read was his 'Things I now know about the Zumo', excellent reading and saved a whole load of searching and reading around.

It works just dandy with my phone bluetoothed and Autocom plumbed in and I don't now have five devices to manage and remember to keep all charged (iPod being a great favourite for going flat).

And I still have a much better dedicated GPS when I want something with more navigational control.

Why they selling them :nenau but I see nothing out there I'm ready to replace it with. My 2610 did me 3 years and I'm still on the 1st year of the Zumo :thumb

My honest opinion Wreford, is people buy them and then can't be arsed to find out how they work. They then become disillusioned when they can’t get the unit to do what they want. An example above with the "50 songs on a card problem" when the unit can actually read up to 1000.

If I pay £350 for something technical then I make sure I find out how to use it. It’s like buying a motorbike then not bothering to learn to ride it, a waste of money. The unit will work straight out of the box but you won’t get the full benefit of its potential without learning how to work it.

I’ve taken time out to show people how to do things on the Zumo. I still see people trying to navigate towards a city by using the address menu, then wondering why they get asked for a street name.

The Zumo has been snapped up by people who didn’t buy the older units but thought this unit looked easier to use and more novice friendly. It is in some respects but it still needs some time to learn how to use it fully.

I don’t think they’re being sold because they’re unreliable, if that was the case then they’d be sending them back and getting a full refund from the supplier.

:)

+1 from another Luddite:thumb

I'm buying mine for next years heroes ledgends... I was looking at the 60CSX but having spoken with an associate at Garmin I was told the Zumo is the best and just as rugged if not more so than the 60CSX.

I'm told it also has agood following with snowmobile users.

Looks like there is no reason why I should not go ahead and buy one... Thanks for all the replys

I used a Zumo 550 belonging to a buddy of mine on the last Europe trip.
Great piece of kit, i could not say anything bad about it but I still prefer my 2610.

Is that because of water ingress by any chance?

Mine got water inside which shorted between two tracks on the PCB burning them out.
I have a new one ready to fit, but before I do I will split it and put some silicon seal around the rubber seal to make sure it doesn't happen again.

He did :nenau

I thought heroes and legends was predominantly off-map i.e. not on routeable roads?

In the harsh environment of where you're off I'd definitely be using my GPSMap 60CS, somewhere where the fragility of touch screens and complicated multi-connector cradles won't be an issue.

I'd get your hands on both if you can and give them a road test, my 60CS (not X) and cradle is available if you want to get to grips with one of them without committing to a purchase.

Absolutely spot on. And the Nokia 3310 is the best mobile phone ever made! :thumb2

There isn't a new one on the way apart from a simple "Point and shoot" waterproof Nuvi thats aimed at the scooter market :)

Just sold my zumo 550 as I tended to use it more in the car for myself and my wife so couldn't see the point in having a bike friendly satnav.
Just bought a new nuvi for £80 so have a much cheaper unit that does all I want it to do - tells me where to go when I need more than a map.
I don't use the MP3 as I've got an ipod, I can't abide having instant access to a phone whilst riding and if it starts raining I'll put the nuvi in my tankbag.

the best of both

I have recently aquired a zumo 550 xl bluetoothed with a asus Eee laptop (small enough to fit in my top box) linked to my HTC mobile and I pod and viacom PMR which will enable me to talk, send, blinkmail, to all and sundry and listen to my mp3 with the additional feature of a headsup display courtesy of Intercommz internal (sun visor) with DAB. the best bit that its all on the bike, no wires and free, I was chosen to evaluate the setup and i get to keep the gear!! P.S the headsup display on the plasma visor is unbelievable !!
