Why are people selling their Zumo's

I shall come from a different direction on this .. you will find a group who want/must have the latest 'hyped' gps gizmo, days of spending £1K on biker gps are long gone, and there's a few hear that did make such an investment 5 years or more ago.

From my view, both TT Rider 1 , Rider 2 and Zumo have cradle weakness and I wonder what enduro testing the manufacturers really did ?. I also get to see a fair share of branded crap that gets aimed at bikers, cos some marketing Johnny gets a feckwit brainwave.

Nuvi 500 is waterproof aimed for scoots while zumo is for bikers, more marketing hype and myth. Nuvi 500 will have a mount similar to the style of Rider 1, so its a feck up until someone does it properly.

2610 with a 2Gb card was proven and for many so was Quest 1, though the screen may for some be an issue. These older devices still have a healthy second hand market because the pureist wants to get from A-B.

Trippy is right as well though.

Don't want to answer the phone, don't listen to music on the bike. Then you don't need a Zumo. Simple as that.

John had one in his van yesterday driving me and my bike back to Cork. Looks really good and does the job... But so does my GPS60

The question by Wreford was why are people selling them not why they don't buy them :D

I didn't do as good a job of answering that as dealing with Chummie's problem and directing him to a solution so...

Its similar to Whatton's viewpoint, the latest and greatest must have handlebar jewellery, I mean who wants to be seen in a Rally 1 suit when the Rally 2 Pro is current and might even be replaced :eek

I've also seen people upgrade in the hope the one they've had and couldn't get on with will be easier next time around and so the upgrade path is swift but the learning doesn't come and the disillusionment leads to another sale and another purchase and on it goes.

Garmin are now capitalising on this big time, new units coming out all the time, mapping updates for sale sooner rather than later, launch their own product on month 1 and their re-branded (but essentially the same but twice as much to buy) one comes out in month 9-12 and woosh another rush to upgrade.

I'm still amazed how few people still open the box fully and use the products to even close to their potential, the units are all well and good but only when your knowledge controls the unit and not when the lack of knowledge means the unit controls them.

Any questions?
Handouts are on the table on your way out :augie

Maybee a wee bit off topic but need a recomendation on a simple to use, robust unit-,not to play music or phone, but must be able to cover europe,[maybee they all do?].also a guide of price, cheers.

Your right a bit off topic, especially when we have a section called "What GPS Should I Buy" for just that kind of question :D

Hey Wreford if you really want to know about Zumo's call JB, he got one on Saturday, played with it all night and managed to find the breakfast room ok on Sunday morning.

Mind you he did leave his room at 6.30 and went via Tavistock :D

I got rid of mine because the interface felt cheap and was poorly set out. There was the little annoyances as well. If the MP3 changes track while the voice is giving a command then the MP3 stops. The Bluetooth v1 support was a cheap fault.

Compared to the Quest it felt gimmicky - designed for somebody without much brain power. :augie

Since then Garmin have updated it (try Garmin XT) and it works much better. Shame they wont update the Zumo though.

:mmmm just about to upgrade from a spIII to a quest maybe ready for a zumo in 2015:augie mind you the spIII gets me from a to b with no problem:eek

Must be the rumour of another latest must have new model on the horizon

I'll stick to the 2610 I bought cheap when they all bought the Zumo.

Why the bloody hell everything these days has to do a multiple of things I don't know. Have a phone that you can make calls on, an ipod that you can listen to music on, a camera that you can take photos with and a GPS that tells you how to get somewhere.

Still I suppose if you are the type of person that thinks a motorbike should have a dash board that tells you your tyre presures, outside temp and any number of other things a musical GPS is a must

Maybe because we know what we want and have thought about it! I don't want to carry masses of stuff about. I don't particuaraly listen to music/radio out and about but it is useful on occasions - not enough to buy an Ipod. I like to take the odd snap but not carry a camera the whole time.

If I really want to listen to music, I use my old and good HiFi. If I really want to take decent pictures, I use my much loved 30 year old Olympus OM1.

So I have a Nokia E71 which does virtually everything I want including diary, storing files, spreadsheets, etc. (I have been looking for the least compromised relacement for my Psion 5mx for several years - a product even now that was well ahead of its time) And a 2610 because it does what I want, is very tailorable and it doesn't answer the phone (the bike is one place where I can get away from it) and a modern 1200GSA because it does what I want.

In other words, the modern technology is wonderful when it suits your needs. Ditto the old technology. But then I think about my purchases and make sure I really know how to use them and their foibles. So ultimately it is just finding the best tool for the job.

Sorry - hijack and rant over.

I'm buying mine for next years heroes ledgends... I was looking at the 60CSX but having spoken with an associate at Garmin I was told the Zumo is the best and just as rugged if not more so than the 60CSX.

I'm told it also has agood following with snowmobile users.

Looks like there is no reason why I should not go ahead and buy one... Thanks for all the replys

I've not used a Zumo but from looking at them I would very much doubt they are as robust as a GPS60. My CSx spent a year on the bars of my KTM covered in mud, hit the road at about 40mph and got buried in a bog to mention but a few of it's escapades. It's never missed a beat:thumb2

If its got Tyres or Tits its gonna be expensive

If it floats fu*ks or flys, rent it but don't buy it

Who's selling a 550?

If everybody is selling their Zumo 550, why can't I get one second hand?

Anybody wants to get rid of one pm me.
