I've been editing some home movies into a DVD.

I can quite happily burn onto Samsung DVD-R 8x blank DVDs but not onto Philips DVD-R 16x blank DVDs.

I'm trying to burn at 1x speed using a Sony DVD RW DW-22A drive.

What gives?

I had a similar issue, would only burn to rewritable HP DVD's, ended up just buying a new burner with +&- R just to be sure, never had a problem since.

sounds to me to media related not much else is it an older burner? as some of the older (couiple of years) are kinda touchy when it comes to which disc they want to work with.

hope that helps

Its probably all down to the reflectivity of the media. I had a similar problem a few years ago, can't remember which brand was at fault. I know I used Ritek and Verbatim brands after this without any further trouble.

My DVD writer is entirely unsupported by Sony - mostly because it is a rebranded LiteOn product.

It also appears that whilst I have the latest driver, I don't have the latest firmware.

The question is: am I brave enough to try updating the firmware?

:eek

Tip: don't use the slide hammer to get the new firmware in, and all will be well (possibly)
