Why is it white?

While riding yesterday, I noticed the oil icon on my display was in white whilst all the other info icons were green. So I stopped and went to take a photo of it... before I could take the photo, the icon had changed to green.
When I used the bike to commute today, I saw the icon was white again. This time I managed to grab a shot.

Can anyone tell me why it’s white please?

Green is good?

White is status unknown?

Is the oil icon only white when the engine is off? Does it go green when the oil pressure increases?

All of the above is conjecture.

what big twin said ....I have occasionally had a green image while riding ,but very rare. More likely when its stopped and the pressure is correct. I think the time to worry is when it goes Red ?

White is monitoring and will be in that state most of the time.
To get a reading, the engine needs to be up to temp and the bike held upright and still.
White and Green is good, Red not so much :thumb

PHEW!! Cheers guys.

I queried this with my local dealer after finding it hard to get an actual oil level reading (guess I could just look at the spyglass!).
This is what they sent me:

1. As of ignition ON, vehicle was driven at least once above 10km/h
2. No heel angle = driver is sitting on the vehicle, side stand is retracted, vehicle is standing upright and on a level surface (max. +/- 2 degrees permissible – monitored by sensor box)
3. Dynamic ESA/ spring strut is set according to actual load status or at AUTO
4. Oil temperature >80 degrees (does not correspond to coolant temperature)
5. Brakes not actuated (not via HSC either)
6. Throttle grip closed
7. Engine running in neutral (at least 20 seconds)
8. Vehicle is NOT standing on the centre stand

Otherwise you won’t get an electronic reading

That is just fukin ridiculous

The list may seem ridiculous, on the other hand, is there anything that could be left out and stil provide a reliable reading?

As SPL said, look at the glass. The TFT symbol is oil level, not pressure. After a run leave bike 5min for oil to return to the sump, bike on main stand and as long as the oil shows in the glass all is ok. Another piece of electrickery to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Surely this is just the 2018 onwards bikes doing what pre-TFT bikes did. You needed to have the bike running, warmed up, and in neutral at a standstill before you got ‘Oil OK’

The bike was running (had just done 20+miles) as indicated, it was in neutral. Speed showing is “0” MPH so I can pretty safely say it was at a standstill.
The question was, given that all other “OK” indications were coloured green, why is the “Oil” indication in white - rather than (what one might presume) “OK” (green)

Presumably because you hadn’t ‘hit’ all the requirements for it to go green. I wouldn’t worry about it. I check the oil before firing up, check the ground beneath for leaks and set off. I’ve only ever had an issue once and that was a faulty oil sensor giving ‘Check Oil Level’ on a ride through Spain and France. Had to get it replaced. In over 37k Miles the bike has been consistently not burning or losing oil.

Yep. And it will turn green once the conditions for the electronic oil-level check are met.

As per the book:
The preconditions for the oil levelcheck are as follows:
> Engine at operating temperature.
> Engine idling for at least tenseconds.
> Side stand retracted.
> Motorcycle standing upright on a smooth, level surface.

Whitnessed the icon turn green today myself.
