OK the City is not so good, the football team means nothing to me and Cricket and Rugby even less. So why is it the best place to live, Its in the middle of Yorkshire and in the middle of England. You can head north, south, east or west and have a very varied and interesting ride.
Iv just been to the Alps for two weeks and on the way down to Dover stopped at the Honda centre cafe for a last breakfast. A group of advanced riders were going off for a ride, where to? trapped north south and east by water, London and the Dartford crossing to the west they must ride the same roads over and over.
The same in an Alpine village we stayed at, at first it looks perfect but then you realise its a days riding on one of 4 roads out before you have any variety.
Worst of all was the Aosta valley and the Sion Valley of Italy and Switzerland. Only two ways in and out of the 50 mile long valleys, both roads making the A65 seem like fun.
There all good to see but it makes me glad I live in Leeds

Slightly right, but living between Masham and Thirsk...................then in biking terms I can either go to the Dales/Moors in 10 mins or further North/South and in terms of anything else, like shopping/theatre/art etc.........then York is 30 mins/Harrogate is 30 mins and Leeds in 45 mins

I'm not a Leeds lass and have lived in a variety of places before moving here almost 20 yrs ago. Have to say, Yorkshire is the best place of them all.
Living on the eastern edge of Leeds is an ideal spot for getting out the city fairly fast but I would love to live somewhere more rural.

I agree about Austria, I planned a circular route going over the Stelvio pass, into Italy & back through Switz in 1 day. Got caught in a storm in Switz and ended up staying at the YHA in St Morritz whilst my tent stood empty in Austria! Ooops!
