...because the roads are slow!

''Norwegian road traffic extra slow Print E-mail
Image Norway has the slowest road traffic in Europe, measured between the nation's largest cities, according to the Information Council for Road Traffic. The survey covers 12 European nations.

The speed on roads between the largest Norwegian cities in 2009 averaged 65 km per hour, Aftenposten writes.

The average speed between larger European cities is up to 108 km per hour, and Norway ranks lowest on the list.

OK?

And PM me if you want to meet me ca. one days ride from Oslo, or in Oslo.

See you, I hope! :thumb

Norway in the winter.

Here you can find out if there are any snow left in Norway:

-Why not ride to North Cape / Nordkapp today?
Because the road are only open for large vehicles this time a year.

SF10 should be enough for sun protection today... :P
No midnight sun, but if you are lucky you can see aurora borealis (the northern lights).

Hi Liv, are they likely to be open the last week in May? we're planning heading straight up over our first 3-5 days then taking our time meandering back south over the next fortnight so if we need a dash for the Oslo ferry we're not too far away.

Hi!

Who know?
If the spring are early, I guess so.
I can call someone up there and ask when they normally opens the road.
-But this give you an idea: http://www.nordkapp.no/?language=en&cat=52389

But, off record, I know large busses are driving all the way from Honningsvåg all year, if the weather is ok. So I guess your odds in May are good.

-But why go up there when there are so many really great places in the south part of this fjord country?
I have never been there...

:) Liv.

I just called

''They open the road at the end of April. But of we get a snowstorm it'll be closed - we never know!''

So your odds are good! :thumb2

I'll be in the area Trondheim - Sykkylven - Stryn - Vik i Sogn the last week in May. If you see an old blue sidecar, BMW engine, it might be me.
That is my Plan A - I might be following a Plan G or H when we turn the calendar for May, so tell me your route, and we can meet!
I can put up my tent or rent a cheap cabin not far from your hotel, if that is your type of home on this tour.

CU, I hope! :bounce1
:) Liv.

that's cool, thanks for doing that Liv. :thumb
we're doing a combination of camping and hyttes and thought about overnighting at/near Alta for the hop to NK and back.
as for our route - it's not set yet and maybe won't be, however we're looking to do as much of the scenic routes as possible as we work our way SW. once we get a clearer plan I'll post it up. be good to meet up with a local, so will keep an eye out for you whatever we do.

-Who know where to sleep the next night?
That might be the perfect way to explore Norway! :thumb2

If you like long forks and V-engines; Bike Fest at Lerkendal in Trondheim Saturday 22/05 2010.
I didn't find this year invitation, but keep an eye on this links and hopefully we get more info in some weeks.

No camping outside the club house Brakka, but you can sign up and spend a night at the floor with the hairy bikers. If you like...
I think I'll find a bed in the city...

-But I'll be in Trondheim for some days, before I turn SW and end up in Balestrand for the ferry to Vik at Friday 28/05.

PM me your number before you leave home, so we are able to find time&place for a meeting!
No need to decide anything before you are in the area.
:roll
The wheels are rolling - nobody know where they are going! :D

CU, I hope!
:) Liv.

Hej Liv
Alan (Gringo) Karen (Mrs Gringo) and I are the team heading to Nordkapp basically becuase it's there. Confirmed plans are:
arrive in Oslo 25th May and head straight through Sweden, stopping overnight in Gnarp in Sweden (450 miles) then Pello in Finland (470 miles) and finally Nordkapp camping on the 27th. We are treating ourselves to hotels to compensate for a straight blast north.

From Nordkapp we will follow our noses, stopping when we feel like it (camping) and generally enjoying Norway to be back in Oslo for our ferry home on the 17th June.

It would be brilliant to meet up and I will pm you our contact details nearer teh time.

Hi rdover!

I'll be at ''start'' on this map 28-30 may, at the sidecar meeting at Tistel camping.
http://kart.gulesider.no/m/pdJ2P
-It say you'll be only 27 hours from me! :augie Or is that much? ;)

I guess I'll be back home before you go to Oslo.
-Perhaps we can meet somewhere not too far from Oslo?

Wednesdays bikers meet at Tyrigrava, so why not meet me there?
http://www.tyrigrava.no/
Fjord Camp is less then 10 minutes from Tyrigrava.

Well, we'll find time&place. Must meet! :JB

:) Liv.
