Why?

Of course the real answer to reducing the amount of accidents on the roads is to simply fix them....this must be the low budget answer!

As another matter of interest, Argyll & Bute Council have finally admitted that we have the worse conditioned roads in the country!!

REALLY.....you don't feckin say :banghead:

Cos the politicians and road safety camp have all collectively bought into the Speed Kills (even although their own accidents statistics do not bear this out)and its bad for you to have fun on the road messages. Also speed = increased fuel consumption = bad for the environment.

Its also considerably easier and cheaper for them to target speed and introduce speed reduction measures than address other causes of accidents such as :
potholes and badly maintained road surfaces,
poor road design including reduced sight lines caused by lack of vegetation pruning,
poor road signage and lines,
poor driving standards,
apparently non-existent police traffic divisions to enforce better standards,
lack of winter snow clearing and gritting, etc.

I predict in 10 years that we will probably have speed limits reduced to such an extent that a 1930's vehicle would be wholly suitable in terms of engine performance and speed.

Also would only need two gears on your BMW, cos you would not be allowed to go fast enough to justify getting into 3rd gear anywhere in the UK without the mandatory little black box recorder limiting your speed.

On the bright side, it's not a 'blanket' speed reduction excersise.

Yup, better edjercation and skills is the real way forward. It's inappropriate speed that kills - not just 'speed'.

Anyway it won't make feckall difference up here regardless of how many bits they reduce.

I don't think they have new fangled thigs like cameras that far north- it's probably only Klanky thats seen one before and that was when he was in the grey funnel line..

A batch of amended speed limits in the Paisley and Barrhead areas.

I was surprised and very shocked to find that they were all lower than the previous limits.

:D:toungincheek

Of course the fact that most of the accidents probably occur when people are ignoring the existing limit probably hasn't registered on the limited intellect of the H&S obsessed clowns responsible for these changes.

Now what are the chances that the new lower limits will result in a rash of new speed cameras as well?

I wouldn't worry, by the time the Government's Spending Review kicks in, there'll be no money for policeman and the business case for the speed cameras won't work because no one will be able to afford the petrol and so ride quickly, so for the brave lawless few, it'll be like a scene from Mad Max in the Highlands, I'm looking forward to the future.....:D
