the 1150 has

-too long gears so it can't be ridden offroad that properly...
-having slower top speed (194kph) with more 5hp power and long sixth gear...
-weighting whopping 6 kilos more...

than the 1100 (195kph).

Discuss.

it's not an off road bike, it's a tourer in drag.

You're going to shatter people's illusions if you're gonna say things like that

Think you'll find it is quite capable of going offroad. You just have to go faster with the longer gears :thumb

Thats sounds about right... was'nt there an option on g-box ratios as well or did I dream that??

So that it's more relaxing to ride on tarmac?

For improved fuel consumption?

Err, heavier pistons?

Discuss only 1kph difference? Err, no thanks.

1) it's down to the rider

2) the 1100's speedo is less accurate

3) many 1100 owners even fatter so 6 kilos is nothing

Oh and most of them look shite. Discussed :P

1100's need 6kilo's of extras to stop them falling apart when/if they venture off road :D

Not really, TT HardParts weight couple hundred grams only. It's the only mod you need and many say it makes the casing even more stronger than it's done on the 1150s by BM.

Official BM fuel consumption difference is very minor: 0.1 litres per 100kms on the costant speed. But many argue about the fuel consumption, but it looks to me the 1100 does even slightly better in that field for everyday city/highway hybrid use, coz long sixth needs too much throttle holding on the regular 50-60mph speeds and you have to accelerate there through 6 gears not 5. Also it's proved by the top speed which is slower, meaning it doesn't have enough pulling power even with extra 5bhp for it's sixth gear, it's chosen too long!?

It's strange where those 6 kilos go. On the 1150 the telelever and paralever both have been made lighter. I guess lof from the cylinders, coz they're taken from the R1200C chopper!?

Offroad resistance: why the HPN, who makes the most offroad bullet proof boxer bikes (cost is always secondary for them) in the World, prefer's 1100 paralever, not the 1150 one  :D

Coz no one wants them, which makes them cheaper donar bike and HPN makes even more profit :thumb

I've 2 1100 GS's and an 1150 GS - The 1150 is far far better on fuel economy. And the brakes on the 1150 are superb compared to the 1100 -

Discuss

Margus,

Discussing the manufacturers claimed fuel economy of two similar bikes is pointless. The biggest factor is the object on the end of your right arm - it's called a hand and the further you twist the throttle with it, the more fuel the bike drinks.

My 1150 has an Adventure tank fitted, drilled filler neck increases capacity to 32 litres (measured). Bent 1150 float arm ensures the low fuel light comes on with 4.5 litres left. Touring abroad when fully loaded up & taking it easy has seen a best of 312 miles before the light came on. Thrashing about in the UK on back roads has seen it light up with as few as 220 miles covered. Big difference & down to one thing only - riding style.

BTW my bike has the "Sports" gearbox, stock gears from 1 to 5 with the low 6th from the Adventure (similar to 1100 5th gear). Ela's bike has the high 6th but I quite often get slightly better mpg than her as she hangs on a little longer to each gear before changing up whilst I short shift up to 6th ASAP. Once again, riding style makes the difference.
