By a miracle we managed to avoid the rain all day. We could see it in the distance, we turned onto roads which had been rained on recently and one area which was just drying out after a serious deluge. The oddest thing was the wind direction.
In Leyburn at 12.30 it was blowing lightly and the clouds were heading North to South. After riding up a soaking Swaledale to Buttertubs we could see rain clouds heading up the valley East to West. When we stopped at Gayle outside Hawes the black clouds were heading down Wenslydale West to East. Once over the top into Wharfedale there was no wind and bright sky.
We were lucky but I suppose somebody was under those clouds being followed by rain.
