does your ISP not offer one as part of the package? Since moving here I had FTTP with Vodafone for 2 years who gave me a Wifi 6 router with their own branding. I am now with Airband wireless who give me a Nokia Beacon G6 router. Both work fine.

They do supply a Router but it does not get good reviews.

I'd give it a try. Router performance is very much a factor of a) the way you use it and b) your physical environment. You will only see reviews from people who had trouble not the 95% of customers who have no problems, much like motorcycle reliability.

Although, saying that, I do prefer ISPs like Airband who give you a decent branded router rather than a bespoke item. The former is more likely to have a pretty generic interface if you need to modify the settings and the geeky forums more likely to have help pages of you do encounter a problem with a particular accessory, VPN etc.

Thanks for the info. I will give theres a try then.

Alternatively I have a Netgear WiFi6 router which I only used for a couple of months before I had the good fortune to be able to pick up a whole UniFi setup (UDM pro, PoE switch, a camera and 6 APs) for about the same as I paid for the Netgear.

Would have to look up the model number etc but am away until Monday.

Much as I'm talking myself out of a sale, I agree with Wessie. Most ISPs give you an 'adequate' router because anyone who needs anything better is probably going to want to nerd out and buy their own suite of stuff.

Chances are it will work absolutely fine, and if not then you can probably put it in bridge mode and stick a router of your own choice on the back of it. That's what I do with mine.

Try it first before you spend any money.

It amuses me that you write incomprehensible mumbo jumbo geekspeak like this about your network but your kitchen and culinary methodology would not look out pf place in the St. Fagans National Museum of History.

Just because I don't like microwaves and air fryers... :dabone

Doesn't mean I haven't spent too much time looking into molecular gastronomy and sous vide cooking (long before it was even economically viable for the home cook)

I will concede that my culinary style is very much more 'primal' and I'm happier with a hole in the ground and some seasoned wood than with a microwave meal.

You'll be pleased to know that I have a variety of different temperature probes from digital to bluetooth to WiFi and apps that will suggest the perfect internal temperature no only for different types of meat, but also for different cuts of meat and different cooking appliances and...

Yeah - I nerd out with food too.

Anyway, that was all completely comprehensible, but only by those who know what I was talking about :D

You was right had WiFi installed by 4th Utility and it is working perfectly with the router supplied. I would recommend them to anyone on the experience I have had so far with them.
